Rainbow Moon Golden, Old-School Fans Prepare To Applaud

We'll never see a true Final Fantasy Tactics sequel, and the days of traditional turn-based RPG glory are gone.

But what if we combined that which we've lost? What if a game existed that featured combat like a strategy/RPG and a world to explore that distinctly reminds one of Grandia?

Enter Rainbow Moon, officially dubbed a strategy/RPG that is both colorful and extremely appealing to those who remember the PS1 days with a particular fondness. You may have been following the game's development when updates were posted at the PlayStation Blog (or here at PSXE), and now it's time to announce that the throwback title has gone gold. It'll be here in just a few weeks time and to celebrate, here's a new trailer.

We won't get Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch this year, and although Rainbow Moon features Disgaea-like gameplay, the traditional setting should tide you over. We can't wait to try it!

It looks like a slap stick comedy. I mean, am I alone in thinking this?

Looks like it's trying to make fun of the "typical" RPG formula. You know, with the music n sound effects being all cheese like.

It's half a throwback to the good olde days.

A lot of old Jrpgs were eccentric like this.

SideQuest studios are about the history of video games, they're gamers who make games for gamers.

I don't see what you see. It looks like a great homage to the past to me.

Oh, yeah. No, I agree with you guys. Just you know. Comedy.

I don't know if me craving Legend of Dragoon, would mean I would like this game too.

This is more strategy. Dragoon is just plain, simple turn base with a lil' "react to this or that" action included.

I take it it took a press release sent your way to see light then, eh?

;)

This is a traditional RPG with free roam world map, towns, NPC's that you can chat to, secrets, dungeons, hidden locations, different means of travel on the world map, turn based battle system (although this is more akin to Disgaea-like SRPG turn based battles), that colourful melodical soundtrack, that eccentricity, 100+hrs of gameplay, lots and lots of customisation, grinding and a lighthearted, simple story etc, etc.

This ticks more classic gameplay boxes than most recent full retail Jrpg...and it's no more than £15!

It's PS1 one more time!!

Expect it June/July depending on how long it goes through Sony QA.

...the light?

I reported it was coming a long time ago. It also says quite plainly in the press release that it's a strategy/RPG. ;)

I know what the press release says, cheers.

You talked this game down from what it actually is a couple of times. Most recently with "it's just Disgaea with towns" LOL. Almost opposite here, even though you're still not seeing how almost all the elements you usually complain no longer exist are almost all there....so yes.....the light to an extent.

;)

SideQuest studios have said many times that it's a traditional RPG with SRPG elements. It's biggest inspiration is Dragon Quest....not quite Disgaea with towns.

lol

You're comments are something else....i actually don't need to debate with you much anymore because it's become absurd. You do it to yourself.

No wonder the comments here have waned, eh?

Hopefully one day we can meet on the same wave length, mate

Same here. I just can't get into RPGs anymore, I want to, but I just don't have the time for such game play. Since I have little time to game, I usually want those few hours to be filled with crazy action.

Gives me a Shining Force like feeling seeing a game with full explorable towns and tactical battles.

Totally looking forward to this!

why have PSN titles started to follow trends now?
a few years ago we were getting such different unique titles, and now online games are doing exactly what retail games are doing just on a smaller scale.
why?
come on seriously, dont we have enough RPG games already!?
my god there almost as over done as shooters!
can we please go back to the good old days where genres did not consist of RPGs and shooters?
what ever happened to arcade and simulation racers?
platformers?
horror?
thriller?
puzzles?
god were starting to turn into hollywood!

More time looking around the PSN for you lad - for a start, this game isn't the kind of RPG that's getting released a lot at the moment - comparing this to Skyrim or Mass Effect would be a mistake!

As for the other genres, off the top of my addled head:
Arcade/Sim racers - Motorstorm RC/Wipeout HD/F1, Dirt Showdown
Platformers - A bit thinner on the ground here, but Sly 4's on the way, and R&C HD collection's coming as well.
Horror - Amy, Resi 6, Zwei, The Walking Dead
Thriller - ? Same as Horrow, ain't it, from a genre perspective? Unless you're talking songs themed around a Michael Jackson song ;).
Puzzles - there's a few of these - not my genre though, so don't really get into them, but they're there.

Journey, Eufloria, From Dust, Awesomenauts - all great games released recently that aren't following recent trends. Just mentioning it, in case you've forgotten them ;).

where did i say there were none of them.
sigh, again the reading comprehension of people on this site never ceases to amaze me!
i said its becoming almost as saturated a genre as shooters!

as for horror, well the fact that you listed amy a game that got such poor reviews, RE6 which wont be a horror game, and zewi which wont be out for god knows as long, just goes to prove my point which was they are so few and far between!
as for thriller no they are nothing alike!
alan wakes a perfect example of thriller, its allot more in the writing and narrative then the gameplay.
horrors get their tone from the gameplay and music, enemies jumping you when you least expect it, and enemies much more powerful than you causing a flight response.
thriller is more in the story and writing, it may not scare you as such but creates tension and unease because of its nature be it graphic or maybe even confusing, also through story twists.
alan wakes constant switch between reality and fiction for example.
