Sony To Announce "The Future Of Gameplay And Innovation"

E3 is just around the corner, and we're already pumped for Sony's press conference.

Sony is enticing the entire world by announcing their plans for this year's major industry event. First and foremost, they say they will announce "the future of gameplay and innovation," which has gotten people talking.

Many like to assume this statement is in reference to the new PlayStation console, the PS4. Others just say they're talking about new software titles, which might make more sense at this particular moment in time. At any rate, Sony also says they'll show off over "20 new gaming experiences," which certainly implies some exclusive fireworks. You can probably expect a bunch of new game announcements for the Vita, as Sony continues to throw their weight behind the new portable.

Furthermore, if you plan on attending, Sony will have over 200 playable kiosks for you to test out upcoming software. For the past few years, many have agreed that Sony won the day at E3 (for a variety of reasons); might they wow everyone again...?

Just throw an exclusive RPG in the mix of the presentation and I think people are going to be happy.

Bare mind,I mean RPG. Not Borderlands and not Assassin's Creed...an RPG. Kapish?

@Fabi

Can't please everyone. We, as gamers, should be aware of this by now.

I wasn't trying to be a d*ck or anything, I just don't think a RPG is what would make more people happier with the presentation. I actually think it's one of the genres that people would be less excited about.

I would LOVE to see an exclusive rpg for the ps3.
It would have been the game bomb of the year for me, unless it was a jrpg.

@Fabi

No no xD I didn't even think that way. I mean the d**k situation xDD

See, the way I thought about this. What do we see the most in these presentations? FPS, right? Maybe an action game, oh yeah, new Uncharted or something.

Now, imagine they're just all of a sudden throwing insane names of engines, publishers and devs and explain that "Oh, no. Not another FPS, friends. Nah. We thought we'd give you some absolutely astonishing RPG" you know?

I mean. It's at the very least unexpected, right?

Yeah it would be unexpected, but I still don't think too many people would be incredibly excited for it. I know there are a lot of RPG fans here, but I think for the most part, RPGs are far from being system sellers.

And this isn't my opinion I'm talking about, although I don't care for them anymore. I used to love them, but just don't have the attention span for them for some reason. It just seems to me that most gamers now aren't really looking for a RPG to wow them at E3. Especially not a JRPG.

I would probably be more excited for a RPG on the Vita, since I would be able to play that. I love being able to just turn on the Vita and the game being loaded up already, play for maybe 20 minutes and shut it off. That fits my gaming style perfectly when it comes to a RPG.

Since Spike is apparently being xbox fanboys again, they will only air Microsofts conference live. So now i have to find a good HD streaming website again. I think I watched on the PS blog last year.

Maybe that Sony 3D visor is one of those things? Or is that old news now? Cause I really want to know more about that one.

Also, if you asked me half a year ago I would have said I don't really want a new console. But I must admit I've changed, I am getting pumped for the PS4 now. I am ready. So Sony, bring it on. Time for a new tech leap.
I will actually be disappointed if there is no word on the ps4 this year.

indeed it is!
it released here jan this year and if i remember right november last year for the states.
they are only in VERY short supply though.
here they have had 1 shipment in jan, 1 in feb and 1 in march and each shipment was for 50 units so its pretty rare.
there currently on backorder there having trouble manufacturing enough for JP so they have put us on hold till thats sorted.
ebay have a few for sale, though obviously inflated i sold one on there recently for 1200!
its on sonys website so if you want to have a look at the specs just go there.

i really like it ive been using it for 2 months now and am very happy with it.
ill do a little run down for ya.

things i like.

a 2 year old could set it up!
its so easy, you have a transmitter which you plug your ps3 into via HDMI cable.
then at the front of the transmitter is a USB slot which you plug the head visor into yes its wired, but the cable is long enough to not cause any problems.
i sit 4M away from the transmitter and dont have any problems still quite a bit of play on the cable.

the flexibility really comes in handy.
you can use it on ANYTHING with a HDMI output!
PC, ps3, 360, anything!

theres allot of settings you can play around with to tune things to how you like them, both in visual, 3D and audio departments.

immersion is amazing, the device comes with 2 rubber blockers that sit under the device which blocks out pretty much all the light.
i was really worried the lights on in the room would spoil it like watching a movie at the cinemas with the lights on, but it does not they do a excellent job of blocking all light.

the 3D is FAR better then what you get from a TV.
the crosstalk, ghosting, dimmer image, all the side effects of 3D are gone.
the depth and pop out is also far more pronounced.

its a amazing experience, it really is like sitting in a cinema it is so freaking cool!

things i dont like.

1 it works very differently with different games.
with some games you get the specified experience cant remember exact measurements but your suppose to feel like your viewing the screen from a set distance away.
some games do that, like your sitting in the middle row at a cinema so its a comfortable experience.
other games feel like your literally pressing your nose against the screen your FAR too close!
gets disorientating.
also the size of the screen also changes with the game.
its funny that ive noticed mainly first party exclusives are the worst.
uncharted 3 felt like i was far too close, and so did KZ3 the only 2 FP games ive tried.
mass effect 3 or most other TP ive tried are much better.
crysis 2 on PC was by far my favourite game with this, using the MaLDO texture pack and a few other mods the 3D effects were amazing and viewing the big open levels with the impressive visuals of the game were eye watering!

comfort is another issue.
its very weird how $ony have built the device.
you have 2 straps, one flexible one which wraps around the back top of your head and one solid one which wraps around the bottom of your head near your neck.
there is no strap sitting on top of your head holding it so there is allot of weight in the front of the device.
what your suppose to do is use the pads to put all of the weight on your forehead, but obviously that does not work.
all the weight sits on your nose and obviously after a while it gets quite painful, i cant use it for more then 2 hours without getting pains.

biggest annoyance for me though is not the pain, its that since there is no strap holding it down its constantly pushing itself upwards.
thus pushing the screens up so the bottom of the screen gets raised and it ends up cutting the bottom portion of the screen off.
i found myself constantly pushing the device down every few moments because it would ride up my head thus cutting half the screen off.

thats about it really, its built a little bit cheaply for my liking the plastic is very thin and flimsy so you have to be very careful with it.
drop it and i can see the arm bands snapping off they are very thin, which is pretty disappointing for 900 AUD you would expect a high quality build.
biggest problem with it to me though is its price.

so in short im really happy with it.
yeah its uncomfortable and i constantly have to fiddle with it to get the whole screen back, but its just so amazing playing your games on a seven hundred and fifty inch screen!
and 3D is SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better!

is it worth the 900 bucks?
no.
simply because for that price you would expect it to have all positives and no draw backs, but it does not.
it has too many annoyances to be worth 900 bucks.
and its far too cheaply built, it would of cost $ony a arm and a leg developing this tech its pretty unheard of still quite futuristic.
so would it of killed them to spend a extra few bucks on the quality of materials?
id definitely recommend it but only to those who have cash burning a whole in their pocket, and are willing to put up with the annoyances.
its definetly a novelty product just like a arcade machine, yea there expensive but give me time crysis 4 on a arcade machine over time crysis 4 on ps3!

That was a very nice run down, thanks a lot! Very interesting.

So the screen is like sitting in a movie theatre then, the screen doesn't cover you entire view, you can see outside the picture? I imagined it would somehow be like watching a virtual world, a FPS where you saw through your characters eyes, if you know what I mean.

no prob.
sorry forgot to mention before engadget have a pretty in depth review and a few videos showing how it works if your interested.
no its not a surround view, you can not see anything next to the screen just a thin black border.
thats one thing that surprised me too i thought it would be like a TV sitting on a wall.
you have a black wall and the TV on it so you can see quite a bit of black space around the TV, but you cant.
there is a very thin black border around the screen but that is about it, its very small.
that is exactly why $ony chose a 750 inch screen. if you do the maths at the recommended viewing distance it would take exactly a 750 inch screen to fill your peripheral vision so all you really see is the screen.
if they went for something larger it would get cut off, if they went for something smaller you would get distracted by the black abyss.

its a shame its not surround view, thats also what i was expecting.
you turn your head and your character turns theirs in game.
there are motion trackers out there that can do that for you using the 3D viewer but there expensive!
theres also a new type of 3D viewer which i found on youtube which has hundreds of cameras built into the face of the device so it can map the position of your head.
that has full surround view, and also runs off android so you dont even have to have a device connected to it!
sadly no ETA or pricing yet, but they do promise to release it.
its a prototype at the moment but unlike allot of prototypes there adamant it will be released.
this is one thing that really excites me for future technology.
comfort wise we have a long way to go, but who needs holographic TVs when you have things like these!?
i swear its so scary, every day were coming closer and closer to the minority report!
shudder.

I'm happy with my PS3 but on the other hand It'll be interesting to see what PS4 have. Its not like they gonna stop making games for the PS3. So when the time will come, I'll buy the PS4. Its as simple as that, no need to make big fuss about it.
