April NPD: Industry Sales Tumble, Prototype 2 Tops Charts
Not a heck of a lot came out in April and consequently, industry sales slipped again.
The relatively well-received Prototype 2 topped a month where total industry sales fell 32% in the year-over-year comparison. Ironically enough, the original Prototype also topped the monthly sales charts when it launched in July 2009, and also when industry sales fell 31%.
The NPD Group's numbers for April 2012 show that Kinect Star Wars and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were numbers two and three respectively, while the Xbox 360 was the best-selling console for the 16th straight month. The Kinect Star Wars 360 bundle helped boost system sales a little but despite that, hardware sales were down 32% to $189.7 million. Non-PC software fell 42% to $292.1 million.
As for Sony, here's their monthly statement from SCEA Sr. Director of Corporate Communications Dan Race:
"According to the April NPD, the PlayStation ecosystem continues to grow with exclusive titles such as MLB12: The Show landing in the top 5 SKUs. Digital-only software titles, including Journey for PS3 and Escape Plan for PS Vita, helped to further bolster growth. PS Vita is gaining momentum as major new software titles like Mortal Kombat and social applications, such as Skype, saw strong demand with consumers. With E3 around the corner, PlayStation remains laser focused on continuing to deliver the industry's best gaming experiences."
We definitely need games like Max Payne 3 and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to help the industry rebound in May.

There are a lot of older titles I want to play through, like Dirt3, GoWIII, Uncharted 1 etc etc... so between picking these up on special and peppering those older titles with new AAA purchases, it will take me years to work through these games...
I read somewhere that Bioshock Infinity is delayed... must admit Max Payne looks good...

Heading into full time employment, I'm only interested the big ones....
Max Payne 3, GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, Diablo 3, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Resident Evil 6, Dead Space 3 and The Last Guardian. On the PSN front, I'm interested in Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD and Sonic 4 Episode 2.
So yeah... plenty of time to save up for those titles, especially since many aren't being released til 2013.
