Capcom Reveals Japanese-Oriented Lost Planet Spin-Off
It's an interesting idea, at the very least.
According to Andriasang citing a recent Famitsu report, Capcom has revealed Ex Troopers, a Lost Planet spin-off for the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS. ...yeah, only those two platforms.
Monster Hunter veteran Shintaro Kojima has the reigns on this one, which evidently shares the same world as Lost Planet. However, there will be a distinct Japanese flair here, as we'll receive an anime presentation and a school-themed story. The Famitsu summary describes the title as a "science fiction Justice Gakuen" and between stages, the game utilizes a "manga demo" event system. The latter is akin to what we'll find in the upcoming PlayStation Vita title, Gravity Rush, which also has definite Japanese style. Lastly, Capcom has tapped May'n for the game's theme song.
That's all we know for now, but we wonder what if the concept will work. They're taking a franchise clearly designed to appeal to Western audiences and making it more Japanese. Now, that may mean it only releases in Japan (because Lost Planet 3 may not sell too well in that country), but we're still not certain it'll be successful. Well, cross your fingers.

I do hope this makes it to the US. Or at least to an Asia version with English subtitles which I can import :-)
