Sony Has "One Big Surprise" For E3, But It Isn't The PS4
What sort of surprises might we see at E3 this year?
Many are wondering if Sony and Microsoft will unveil their new consoles, but most analysts and legitimate sources say it won't happen. Still, according to a Tweet from PSM3 magazine, Sony does have "one big surprise" in store, even though it doesn't involve the PS4.
"Sony *do* have at least one big surprise, we hear, that makes us go 'ooh', and it's not PS4."
With the PS4 out of the running, the guessing game becomes a lot harder. We already have the Vita and PlayStation Move, so another piece of hardware or some sort of accessory seems unlikely. We'd have to assume this surprise is about software; we expect to see a lot of new Vita games during Sony's press conference, and there has been a rumor about Grand Theft Auto V on Sony's new portable...
Remember, analyst Michael Pachter said he was excited after seeing "one big title on the Vita." Then again, maybe it's Quantic Dream's new PS3 exclusive project...

PS Vita/PS3 remote play functionality fully implemented?
PS1 games finally run on Vita?
Vita and PS3 able to run any downloadable PSP title?
VR headset available for the same price as the 24-inch 3D monitor?

The PS2 hardware is all SoC integrated these days, you need little more than the PS2 on a chip and a little support circuitry. If they spun that at a small enough chip geometry it would be very low power, and not need much in the way of heat dissipation or power. I wouldn't honestly be surprised if Sony did manage to put a PS2 on a USB, in a standard USB stick, there is plenty of room, it's really just the heat/power issue that might be a problem.
You know, now you got me thinking. If we fast forward 4 years to the time when the PS4 is here...There's really no reason why Sony could not create a PlayStation 'Ultimate'. By that time, it will be easy to put an entire PS3 on a single chip. Add that and the PS2 SoC on a small circuit board with the appropriate USB (or other high speed interconnect) hardware and you could literally have a plug-in adapter to take whatever the PS4 is and make it 100% compatible with every PlayStation that preceded it. I know a lot of people that would buy one.

Not speculating that this is what it will be. Just saying if there is an announcement like this coming, I hope it's not Vita related. By the way I don't own a Vita so maybe this is where all this stems from. ;)

XMB one of the few interfaces I've ever used that feels like it is completely driven by function instead of form. I really like it, still, and personally I find it preferable to the Vita's multi-pane interface.

But aside from that, I like the XMB very much.

When in a game and I hit the PS button it should be a quick and smooth operation, unlike the currently super slow, clunky way it is now. Why do all my pics, games, the majority of the settings and several other unusable things need to load up when I can't use them anyways?
Also like Underdog pointed out the file system is really bad. It could use several enhancements. I would also like to see the total amount of space used if I select the games folders, rather then having to add all the games up myself. I wouldn't mind if I only had a few games, but I have around 150 of them on there and I would like to get quuick easy access to that data.
I would also like to have the option to hide icons. I know this is an old complaint but I am not stupid! I know where the PS Store is I don't need all the different store Icons. I could also do without a dozen or so other icons on there. Really I just want the option to streamline the look of the XMB.
I would also like to see a quick function to messages received. I don't know maybe when a message is received if you hit the PS button it takes you directly to it.
Outside of some of those I love the XMB but I think it needs a lot of work.

If its something for the Vita, good for those that have bought it. I don't have the intention or inclination to buy it. Just not my thing. But good for those if it is.
If its just another sequel for a game. Okay. Great. Uncharted 4? Killzone 3? Sly Cooper 4? inFamous 4? Thats what I would expect. But is that a big surprise?
Not trying to burst someones bubble here but a surprise in the gaming industry for me is something.... new... something... different... something... never completely tried before... something that does not cost me in the end over $100.
Here's hoping. Keep Playing!

if $ony has ONE cat to pull out of its bag at the biggest event of the year than it will be a epic disaster!
they really need to announce a sh*t ton of games for the ps3 and vita because as previously mentioned the next 12 months are looking pretty deserted!
only ps3 exclusive im looking forward to is the last of us, and the only vita title im looking forward to is, well, nothing!
bioshock, AC, and COD will most likely turn out to be ports of their counterparts instead of exclusive games.
this is the first year where the 360 actually has MORE games releasing exclusively for it than the ps3 does!
christ, cant believe i just said that.......
both $ony and M$ really need to bring the cats out of the bag for E3 this year because ninty is not going to be going quietly.
it will be really interesting to see how the wiiu effects the industry, and if it pushes the rest to push forward their next systems.
im really looking forward to it, especially the new tablet looks so freaking cool!
O, and as for the 1 surprise they have planned id like to go for the return of 8 days and the getaway 3!
no i wont ever get over it!
8 day was looking better than uncharted 2, and it was to release 3 years earlier!
and the getaway 3, well, its only the 1 franchise that has ever stood up to the biggest franchise in the industry GTA!
nah that does not deserve a sequel not at all!
sometimes i think $ony want to go bankrupt!

FFVersus XIII this year with exclusivity (meaning it won't be stripped for 360)
FF XV (as a return to Square Soft's roots)
What if it's a merger? Or the FFVII remake we'll never get....
I don't want to get my hopes up and them announce something lame....

the only other thing it could be is maybe a tv with a ps3 in it? i mean ppl have also dreamed (or dreampt however you wud say it) about that too... i mean take a 32 inch lcd hdtv (no more than 250 even 200 at some places and a ps3 no more than 250 online its less) put them together and sell it for 399.99 would be a great idea.. they cud promote it how it plays blu-rays (ps3 has always done it but it was never marketed well in this area)

My guess would have to be GG's new game. Like ND, they usually release games within a 2-year timeframe, give or take a month. It might be a new IP too, because again, like ND, they could've been working on a new IP at the same time making Killzone 3. Lest we forget, Sony first-party studios are very close to each other, and likely share methods of developing (like splitting your studio in two).
