Atlus Will Keep Demon's Souls Servers "For The Foreseeable Future"

Maybe you're still having fun with Demon's Souls and haven't yet made the leap to Dark Souls. Or maybe you just like the first title more.

Either way, good news: Atlus has announced an extension for the Demon's Souls North American online servers. They were originally slated to be shut down on May 31, 2012 but for whatever reason (popularity, perhaps?), Atlus has decided to keep the servers up "for the foreseeable future."

Said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales:

"We're incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon's Souls online experience will persist for a while longer. While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls. For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game's amazing online experience, we're happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon's Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time."

If you never experienced Demon's Souls, you can grab it now for only $19.99; it has earned a well-deserved spot in the Greatest Hits library.

Demon's Souls. Once of the best games of this generation. The joy you get after beating a difficult boss after a million goes is hard to beat.

These servers should be kept active as a service to gaming history.

Yeah great news coz I have just bought two games last week for me and my friend and we were worried that the servers would stop but thank god that won't happen any time soon.

This is great news for US owners over here in the EU Namco Bandai controls the servers hopefully they don't start teasing about turning off there servers because I like Demon Souls a lot more then Dark Souls

How is Dark Souls? I loved Demon's but never made the jump to dark. Are they, for the most part, the same? Any improvements? Being that they are finally releasing it for PC I might just get it.

I'm probably not the best person to ask since I only play about 2-3 hours of Dark Souls but I feel that was enough while Demon Souls had me hooked till the very end. Not that Dark Souls is bad it's probably the better game but Demon Souls just hooked me.

Yes! I finally started playing this game when they announced the servers were going to be shut down (was sitting in my backlog), but I knew I wouldn't get throught it before they were shut down.

So glad I have more time to experience the full game. I love the online aspects of the game. Great news for a game that deserves way more attention.
