DOOM 3 BFG Edition: A Comprehensive DOOM Experience
DOOM is one of those iconic video game franchises that the PlayStation brand hasn't seen since the early PS1 days.
But all that's about to change. Bethesda Softworks has announced the DOOM 3 BFG Edition, which will be available this fall for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It's "completely remastered" and features the "Resurrection of Evil" DLC pack, 7 new levels entitled "The Lost Mission," and even the original DOOM and DOOM 2 titles. That is a comprehensive collection of freakishness.
This reworked DOOM 3 will boast "greatly enhanced graphics" and gamers will have the option of 3D. Of course, you can also expect Trophies/Achievements along with other technical improvements, such as better rendering and lighting, a new checkpoint save system, and "fine-tuned controls." Said id Software Technical Director John Carmack:
"DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release. Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it."
For more, check out the debut trailer. No price or exact release date just yet, but at least we know DOOM is finally coming to the PlayStation 3. And I remember playing DOOM 3; that game was pretty damn awesome so even if you're not enthusiastic, I say you should be.

Interestingly, the Playstation couldn't handle Doom 1, 2 or Final Doom and levels had to be scaled down to meet Playstation requirements compared to the original PC version.
Anyway, this is fantastic news! I hope Doom 1, 2 come with trophies ala 360 versions.
Doom 3 was nothing on the original, historical two. But it did pave the way for cinematic horror FPS games.
It leads me to think Doom 4 won't be as good as the original two as well, but we'll see.

I had a nice setup too on my PC where I would press the thumb button on my mouse to bring up the flash light and then press the same button to select my gun. It was a nice setup and I was constantly switching back and forth. I think that's why I didn't have any problems with DOOM 3. Went right through it with a huge fist pumping when I beat it!
I would have to say that out of all the games I have played in my life....the DOOM franchise has taken more hours from me. I probably put 5-600 hours into all the DOOM games combined. Wow, good time and great memories!

ANyway, I played both DOom3 and it's expansion (better than original game). It was cool and impressive in visuals, gameplay wasn't particularly special with some redundant monster behind the door behind you tricks, but cool nonetheless.

First game i played where the enemy A.I attacked each other,i remember being up on a battlement with a barred window and watched as the demons started throwing fireballs up at the zombies on a platform across from me.
Another time i was dodging gunfire left & right from a zombie when another zombie behide the first one took a shot at me but hit the 1st zombie instead so zombie NO.1 turned around and blew zombie NO.2 away!!
And lastly i remember running for my life as i was low on health and found a door with a room with only 1 way in and a barred window looking out on where i just came from,a zombie with a chaingun had followed me and was trying to get in but i kept closing the door....unknown to both myself and mr.chaingun zombie opening the door a second time caused another door to open...letting out one of those floating heads that spit fireballs at you...anyway it made the mistake of firing at the zombie who then unloaded in its face...i watched in awe as the floating head crumpled to the ground.

That's what's missing in today's Doom. Doom 3 played in too much a cinematic way and lost a lot of what made Doom great and endlessly addictive.
Doom 1-Final Doom are the unbeatable FPS games.
Also, are you sure that happened? species of the same type couldn't attack one another and the Chain-Gunner is a whole lot less powerful than the Cerberus, one hit off of Cerberus's plasma ball should of turned Chain-Gunner is inside out.
Anyway, you made a great point, Doom was and still is the stuff and iD Software always innovated.
I just truly hope they bring back the old style gameplay, but obviously updated with new innovative elements.

Not sure about the names of the enemy types.
1.Regular demons at ground level firing at zombies on a higher ledge(zombies were running back & forth like crazy dodging them....hilarious!
2 Shotgun zombie in front took a hit from a rifle welding zombie(pure accident due to my dodging)shotgun zombie turned around and blasted him down point blank in less that a second..happened in a corridor also hilarious.
3.Chaingun welding zombie took a hit from or maybe just noticed a floating head thing and then continued to shoot non stop untill the floating head thing was a pile of blue and red mush on the ground, the floating head thing couldn't do anything because it was constantly in its taking damage animation,he shot it across the area i was in.
All happened on final doom on PS1 between 96 & 97 methinks and i'll remember it forever because it was unbelievably cool.
