Leaks And Rumors Totally Kill Hype And Excitement For E3

Yes, I understand the opposite stance: All the rumors and supposed "leaks" generate more buzz and excitement for E3.

And for a long while, I agreed with that assessment. After all, rumors can be lots of fun; they promote discussion and get gamers more enthusiastic about the industry in general. However, I think we've reached the point where we're discovering big announcements and surprises, which completely spoils some of the mystery of the show. Basically, all we're doing these days is waiting to see which of the hundreds of rumors prove true and as a result, we're not easily shocked.

The good news is that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo still manage to conceal a few headline-grabbing secrets, which keeps any flagging excitement alive. But how much longer before the all-powerful Internet knows every tiny detail before any of the press conferences begin? Then what? People ask if E3 is still relevant these days; I say the only reason it isn't is because we're systematically killing off the buzz that has historically surrounded the event. SCEA president Jack Tretton has made cracks on stage before about how they just can't keep anything secret anymore.

I'm all for getting people talking, and I'm all for anything that promotes attention and popularity in video games. But there's a limit. Personally, I don't really want to know absolutely everything beforehand; I don't even want a whiff of something big. Maybe I'm the only one but that's how I see it. I love the crowd-pleasing bombs from the stage!

Yeah i agree with this too. Rumor mill is fun in small doses but when it goes too far as to possibly ruining every surprise before the show it can get annoying.

Nothing more fun than reading forum/community reaction when big bomb shells are dropped that noone saw coming.

Off topic, but did anyone see that Saints Hitman trailer? That was insane!

Yeah, those fetish nuns stripping down to their bare essential leather nothings trailer was great!!!!

But I swear, I had nothing to do with it....

Biker, somehow you have put together a string of words that I honestly could never have predicted would be in the same sentence, never mind the same thought.

LOL

Highlander,
Ha, well I'd have to admit that my overly wild vivid imagination has quite the flair to it, LOL

E3 just aint what it used to be for me. Several years ago it promised big surprises and massive reveals. These days E3's feel predictable. I absolutely do not want to see a 15min conference presentation of this year's COD, or some other big budget franchise that dominates the show these days. Anyway, I'm hoping for like a Shinobi HD collection announcement (yes, very E3 worthy news ;) More details about the Last of Us. More info DOA5. More GoW4 stuff. Halo 4 etc.
If I get that much I'll be satisfied I wont set myself up to be dissapointed. I'd like to see more about this DC fighting game by Netherrealm Studioes as well

I 100% agree with that headline (and i didnt even read the article lol)... E3 is boring now since 95% of the stuff they reveal was already "?revealed" as a leak or rumor.. I bet not one NEW thing will SHOCK us at E3

Yeah, sadly Sony has had more leaks than an industrial cheese grater.

And they need to plug them with a concrete truck.

It's actually taken most of the fun & anticipation out of E3 for me.

That was one of the best CG trailers i've seen. You should hear the sh1tstorm that trailer is already causing.

Anti-game types & news channels are going to be licking their dry, cracked in-need-of-chapstick lips & blow that trailer out of proportion even though the nun suits were just a disguise.

What ever happened to the new Contra that was teased by Konami last year? I was waiting for some details on the game and E3 came and went. Hopefully they shed a little light on the project Monday. Hard Corp was Contra with an anime flare and I LOVED it, but I still think it's time for a *real* new entry into the saga...hold the spin-offs please! Not bashing, just saying, again I loved HC.

With that said, hopefully they keep the 2D HD sprites and side scrolling madness that HC had...maybe even make it a tad bit harder? The game was amazing but paled in comparison to the original Contra's difficulty. The addition of a mode similar to uprising would be great for the casual market too. Who's ready to input the good ol' konami code? ARGHHH come on konami!

a little of both.
it takes away from what they can announce at the events, but it also makes you wonder if this is what has leaked than what are the things that have not?
i hope $ony still has a few things under their sleve we have not heard anything about!
otherwise their presser is going to be a complete disaster!
one things for sure, $ony needs to hire a new plumber!
i mean almost every single thing the company has announced the past few years has been leaked weeks if not months before!
severe security problem for once would be understatement of the century!

Leaks seem to be impossible to stem though. Look at Apple, they can't ever keep the covers on their new iPhone or iPad. And if anyone is guarding a product and operating in a closed environment, it's Apple.

yeah everyones got leaky pipe problems lately.
almost every detail of the S3 leaked before its announcement!
not that im complaining of course!
it does get annoying sifting through the truths and fakes but than on the other hand we get to see things we may never see.
who knows if those leaked screens are of the real release phone, or just of a scrapped prototype?

speaking of apple theres now a video of the leaked screen for the iphone 5 comparing it to the 4.
i hope its fake it looks so similar to the 4 just larger.
i really wanted to see a redesign like apple did with the 4.
ive had the 4 for 2 years now im really starting to get bored of it!
they need a redesign.
they need to redesign the OS too, its been exactly the same since the original iphone released!
im getting the samsung S3 tomorrow, i was going to wait till the 5 comes out but these leaked screens have me almost convinced it will be so similar to the 4.
im bored of using the same device i need something different!

Great. And now on June 1st we have the new Tomb Raider release date and in game footage of Dishonored. They just can't wait a few days for E3. Time to turn off my rss game feeds until after E3.

I like the leaks (trailers that are released before hand) as it gets me excited to see some previews of the games. I don't like reading about some secret announcement however...I'd rather a new game reveal be a surprise. Titles that have already been announced however, I have no problem with seeing trailers/leaks/etc before hand.

Not only leaks and rumors, but I'm wondering why Sony's dropping all these new announcements just before E3 that all seem like great E3 stuff, like the just announced Sports Champions 2 on the PSblog, and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault...

It it just me, or have Sony done this before, either by announcements or rumors of all the big releases before E3 to leave no surprises for the actual E3 press conference, leaving people disappointed instead.. sometimes you wonder about the Sony marketing dept...
