Sony On Last Guardian: "We'll Talk About It When We're Ready"

The Last Guardian was a no-show at Sony's E3 press conference this year, as many sadly expected.

So the question remains: When will we see it? Well, according to what Sony senior vice president of product development Scott Rohde told GameSpot, the game will only ship "when it's absolutely ready."

Rohde said he couldn't give us a "detailed update" but he did say that "it goes back in my mind to innovation and to gamers and to quality." Obviously, he - as well as most all PlayStation fans - have very high expectations for this project, and right now, there is "no deadline whatsoever" for Fumito Ueda's potential masterpiece.

Added Rohde:

"And I think that's a really important thing to remember, that it would be very easy to ship a game when it's not quite ready because we need to meet a business plan. Gamers are first. And the experience that we provide is first. And that's why we're going to talk about that game when we're ready to talk about it."

This sort of falls in line with the last development update from Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, when he said the project had been hampered by "slow progress." Hopefully, though, the end result will be well worth the wait.

I can respect that, I'm just a little worried that by the time this thing shows up people are going to be a little bitter. My powers tell me it's at least 2 years away now and that's kinda painful... sorta kills the magic.

Well, the good thing now is that at least we know that it hasn't been shelved.

Which was answered - "It will ship only when it's absolutely ready"

Be it late, I'm glad to be confirmed that Sony doesn't set milestones for developers to rush a game. It's a blessing in disguise.

Not rushing a game is one thing, announcing it and showing gameplay footage of it 7+ years prior to release is something different entirely...

And then not showing anything more of the game in the last x years is just too weird, which seriously makes you wonder if this game's ever coming out.
