Watch Dogs Isn't Next-Gen, Confirmed For PS3, 360, PC

When Ubisoft Montreal's Watch Dogs was unveiled at E3, everyone stepped back and went, "...woah."

In fact, it looked so good that rumors began to circulate that the game was actually in development for next-generation consoles. Given the possible development time frame and the fact that new machines could launch in 2013, it seemed reasonable.

But while producer Dominic Guay is flattered, he did confirm to Joystiq that Watch Dogs is definitely coming to the current round of consoles; officially, the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The demo that blew everyone away was running on PC, but Guay also added that a Wii U version might be possible. So for now, expect the hotly anticipated and fantastic looking title to release for a console you currently own (unless you only own the Wii).

As for expectations, we're excited. Really excited. That is all.

Seriously i was just blown away by the game play demo for watch dogs, it truly looks next gen.

I have to admit I always figured this was the case, it wasn't THAT great. It just looked like a PC rig which is usually the case.

What?! The graphics were amazing....I'm a little let down since this is the type of game I prefer to play on consoles.

Maybe it's because I watched the footage on the internet but while it looked great it didn't look next-gen-leap great. You can always expect the final version to be a little less beautiful than the E3 demo anyway.

IMO it looked well above the current gen with the amount that was going on. I know with the community here I'll get some a little pissy but everything about the game to me looked better than anything on the PS3.

It did look pretty close to what GTA V showed though. Also, they aren't going to show any next gen games until the next gen consoles are announced.

I'm going to have to say that while graphically it would be one of the best looking games on consoles, it still didn't blow me out of the water so I didn't see any next gen to it either, unless next gen is going to start out looking like some of this gen's games.

Plus as world said, not sure what they were running it on.

Ubisoft confirmed it was running on PC so I can't imagine the console version looking as good but will still be a great game

I said this in the article the other day that they(Ubi) clarified it was gonna be for this gen, but they also admitted that it was running on a high end PC for the convention, you know for the Wow factor.

And I don't blame them, that one sure did pop to me ;D It was not only gorgeous but really had a lot of the things I like in games.

Specifically the open world which for some reason I have just come to expect in a lot of games now, I always remember the open worlds on the PS1 & 2 and have been kinda disappointed with some of the games this gen that didn't have them. Also the hacking concept is really what grabbed me the most, if it is done right I believe the replayability could be limitless. And if it is co-op which I kinda took from the presentation I will be really happy about that as well. This game isn't just on my radar it IS my radar.

I thought it looked like my kind of game for sure, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops. The only thing that worries me is that from my own personal experience, ubisoft tends to take great ideas and do things with them that I find rather, meh.

So in this case I'm hoping they actually pull through because I've often been wowed by previews of ubisoft games only to get them and feel they were ok.

so cant wait till this releases it looks amazing!
f*ck the graphics, while they looked by far better than anything we have ever seen!
but f*ck the graphics, just the gameplay and concept of the game is so fresh and new!
this is why i love ubisoft so much!
no matter what they always manage to come up with something new!
no publisher out there is as good as finding the new in a sea of old, no one is as good as reinventing the wheel, as ubisoft are!
there the apple of the games industry!

People really thought it was next gen? Please tell me how it looked better than the God of War or The Last of Us stage gameplay demos. I would say it looked more on par with Assassins Creed III, which looks decidedly better than AC I and II. The game looked good, don't get me wrong about that, but so does so many of those gameplay demos shown. Looks like the 3rd party developers really have an understanding of the hardware. It's good to see.

I mean if you honestly didn't see the difference then I consider you somewhat lucky, or just blessed with really bad vision.

I think we're all blessed with the level of fidelity in these games in the past few years.

And I just watched it again in 720p to make sure I wasn't smoking something. I'll say it again. It looks good, but nothing better than what we've seen already.

Next gen better bring something more to the table than, "Characters can realistically put their hands in their pockets!" haha!

amazing how many people still to this day fail to understand open world games are SO much harder to render than linear experiences!
this looks 10 times better than the last of us, and its a freaking open world game not a linear coridoor shooter!
