PSN Debacle Gone But Not Forgotten

It's in the past but unfortunately, nobody is going to forget what happened.

Last year, an attack on the PlayStation Network rattled the gaming world. Ever since then, despite the vast majority of PSN users returning after the service was back up and running, any small problem is perceived as another possible attack.

Take today, for instance. The Network was down this morning, as some users reported being unable to sign in. A few others said they were prompted to change their passwords, and the account management option was unavailable. Considering the sensitive information contained in our accounts, people were understandably a little nervous about the whole situation, especially after what happened last April.

Sony responded by saying they were working on the issue, which now appears to be resolved. I - and everyone I know around here - see no problems with the PSN. However, all this only reminds us once again that no matter how much distance we put between ourselves and that attack, everyone will always be a little jumpy. Well, maybe if ten years go by or something...but until then, the instant the PSN is down (and it isn't scheduled maintenance), you're always going to see some quick, anxious reactions. It's understandable but still a little depressing.

This happened over the weekend on June 9th as well. I think people are jumpy, but people have been very quick to jump to conclusions with Sony for many years now. I wonder how users of other consoles or online services react when their system responds in a similar manner?

Hehe - yeah I've often asked myself the same. I bet it is very similar. I mean, some people go apeshit if Facebook is unavailable for a few minutes, so... It's safe to assume it's the same in all camps.

The PSN does seem to go down for long periods of time. But I don't hate on it since there are others things to do.

I always read about these minor outages but never end up being a part of it. They never seem to happen when I want to play. :p

It could be worse... it could go down for maintenance and have no backup server essentially leaving me without access WHILE having to pay for it...............

I hate our dependence on interenet. There has been several PSN games that I would have bought if they were on disk.

(in Britain they get disk.... its not fair!)

Many of those games end up on discs in the UK because of ISP restrictions and regulations. Otherwise they would have been PSN titles there as well.

I know! But I'd pay a little extra for disks! I try to import them but most the time I can't get them.

I hate the US's dependence on the interent!

I bought Outrun on 360 only because the US version never made it to the states on PSN.

I didn't even know about this until now. And I'm not worried about it. Frankly, I wasn't even worried about it back when things went down last April. I cancelled my MasterCard and got a new one (a 5 minute phone call), and waited patiently for PSN to come back. It's not the first time I've had to cancel a card due to potential theft/fraud. This is a risk we all take when we sign up for any online service and give them our info.

PSN goes down i don't freak out nor do i hate PSN, i don't use it as much as i use too as lately i've just been playing offline but enjoy finding some gems on it :)
I just think people speculate to quickly now a days

The funny thing is PSN is way better than its rival XBL. The fact that I don't have to pay and get a better more trusting service (yes trusting) is worth the unscheduled maintenances I believe. At least with PSN if I wanted to delete my card details then all I have to do go into my account management and delete. With XBL it I'd have to ring them up and go through countless password checks just to delete some details. I think people should give more credit to PSN although at the same time I understand why people would be worried when anything out of place happens with the service.

the longest month ever, i was real worried for sony at that point, bad news travels fast, it made me realise how much sony hate there is out

in the uk, it made the main news station and all major papers. shit even my mom told my brother not to buy a ps3 when he was considering a purchase . and shes never had an opinion on console

Oh come on... a little jumpy? Its a gaming network. If people are getting a little nervous about downtime whether announced or not, then they really need to take a vacation and reassess what really is important.

Granted I only go online for demos or see what PSN games are on for sale, but my life, heck my gaming life is not dependent on it.

And just writing about just feeds in certain gamer network nervous disorder.

That said... keep playing!

I may get a little upset when the network goes down when I want to play, but I don't get worried. There are way to many people out there that go online and throw a tantrum every time they can't sign in. Even during SCHEDULED maintenance they get on the PS Blog and just start ripping Sony for being "unreliable".

People just need to calm down. This stuff happens, get over it.

was wondering what happened my ps3 constantly kept locking up on me!
$ony really need to work on a live update system or something that way when things like this happen you get a notification on your dashboard that way you actually know whats happening instead of being left in the dark assuming the worst.
