May NPD: Diablo III, Max Payne 3 Top Another Losing Month
Diablo IIIIndustry sales tumbled in another double-digit percentage decline, but at least Diablo III and Max Payne 3 fared well.
According to the May NPD sales stats, total North American retail sales were down 28% year-over-year, which unfortunately isn't surprising. February's 20% decline is actually the best month of the year thus far.
Hardware is a tough sell these days as this category fell 39% year-over-year (only the Nintendo 3DS sold more units in May 2012 compared to May 2011), and only accessory sales managed to climb. Software was down 32%; analyst NPD analyst Anita Frazier says the number of titles available is way down compared to last year: 27% fewer new games in the month of May. Less available titles means lower sales, yes? As for the top five titles: Diablo III, Max Payne 3, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Prototype 2, and NBA 2K12.

As demonstrated at E3 last week, our commitment to gamers is stronger than ever with upcoming 2013 PS3 exclusive titles, including Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension and The Last of Us, as well as PS Vita titles PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation which will continue PlayStation’s momentum into the new year."

surprised actually, LA Noire did well but i did not think it did that well!
really surprised, even this early on i thought MP3 would be wiping the floor with LA Noire!
not really a surprise that this year is down on last years though, may last year had so many awesome games releasing!
both quantity wise and quality wise last year was far ahead!
by this time last year we already had several GOTY contenders in portal 2, crysis 2, dead space 2, LA Noire, infamous 2, and so on.
this year nothing really is worthy of GOTY labelling!
ME3 was great but still a massive disappointment, so was MP3, diablo 3, future soldier, nothing really this year so far deserves GOTY status!
TBH this year is turning out to be year of the disappointments!

pretty sad were 6 months into the year and so far the best game thats released is uncharted golden abyss!
