Journey May Be The Front-Runner For Game Of The Year
Could - or should - a downloadable title win Game of the Year?
That may be a difficult question to answer for gaming websites and sources come the end of 2012, as it appears Thatgamecompany's Journey will be in the running for the year's highest award.
Right now, the artistic and innovative gem holds a slight lead at GameRankings for the highest rated game of the year, coming in at 92.26%, just ahead of Mass Effect 3's 92.12%. At Metacritic, it's ME3 with the slight lead; 93-92. But beyond the scores, let's break things down for a minute: The gamer outcry against ME3 was well documented and could very well hurt BioWare's epic RPG when it comes time to vote for Game of the Year. Furthermore, we're already halfway through the year, and the only other legitimate contenders are Max Payne 3, Xenoblade Chronicles, and if you want to take a leap, Diablo III (which also had significant, well-known issues).
In looking at the rest of the year, perhaps the biggest contenders have already been confirmed for 2013: Bioshock Infinite and The Last Of Us. And with every passing day, it seems more and more unlikely that Grand Theft Auto V will hit this year. So what's left? Well, Assassin's Creed III appears to have the best shot at the illustrious award in question, or maybe Halo 4 can take the crown. Another title that might have a chance is the hotly anticipated Dishonored, which looks potentially awesome. That one could be this year's Skyrim if everything goes well; the mixing of genres is borderline ingenious, damnit.
Then again, maybe a game like Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Borderlands 2, Lords of Shadows 2, Resident Evil 6, or Hitman: Absolution can take the world by storm... Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? Oh, I suppose. But at this point, it's by no means a stretch to say that Journey could emerge as the finest interactive experience of the year.

I too am worried with DOA5 having crazy amounts of held back stuff. Dragons Dogma has had a ton which I feared but its nothing I really care about which is good. If they announce multiplayer DLC for it I will however blow up capcom.

But I won't before I try the new BABEL RISING demo. That's right. Biblical games. It's got Highlander's name written all over it. I can't wait to punish them sinners!
Anyway, LV so who do you buy your PC's from? I'm too lazy to build one. But I need a workhorse PC that can crank it hardcore in Max.
VF5 is older than 15 years, in fact I think it's nearly 20 years now. I love that after so many years these games still exist unfettered, unpolluted, un-westernized, with pure unadulterated game play bliss that I grew up with.
Xenris, wanna have at it some time on VF5? I'm not the best VF player in the world, or close to it, but the last guy I fought tonight appeared to have rage quitted... hehe ultimate compliment =p

World,
I can sort of see what you mean. I guess that is why I like it, it feels familiar but it has honestly changed enough over the years to feel fresh for me.

LV, well what I mean is having to track down each individual component and checking for what's compatible with what, order them, and look for each package to arrive at my door. I used to work for a computer store (before they went under) and it was easy because I could get everything there with my discount and just assemble it all at home, and if there was a MB or RAM conflict, or whatever, I could just take a few minutes to swap it out at work. Anyway, I think I'll wait a month before I order it or decide on what I want to do.
Sounds good, Xenris ;)

The last part of the game I was literally in tears but didn't realize it until I put the controller down and watched the credits. I wasn't "crying" more my emotions were just all over the place, with the music and the visuals, man almost every
time I beat that game I feel a weird sense of peace and joy.

I've not experienced the same level of enthusiasm for any other title so far this year (yes, they all got at least one console too).

I *hope* it will be Dishonored, though. Cause that means we got one heck of a steam punk game coming up, and that'd be utter awesomeness.

You have to beat it 3 time so you can get to the good stuff and before getting there the loot are unremarkable ( the ones on the first difficulty are tolerable tho since it s the first playthrough )and even once you re in Inferno they are nothing special beside the occasional lucky drop .
The real money auction house will destroy that game and i even felt like before it was out .
Maybe not all will agree but that s how i felt about it .

It has received some of the biggest praise i have ever seen a game get with multiple sources calling it the greatest game of our time....and i, a hardcore gamer for many years, am finding myself unable to disagree. It's my 6th personal 10/10 scoring game. Absolutely perfect. It gave me an experience like no other, something i hadn't felt the entire generation. It moved me incredibly.
It deserves it and more.

Just because it sold fast doesn't mean it sold a lot. What does fastest selling mean? Fastest to sell 10 copies? 100 copies in a few days? 1000 copies in a week? Who knows? Sales numbers haven't been released so there's no way of knowing how many it sold.

As for whether, or not, this game can be a goty? Sure. I don't give a crap. It's not really a "game" though, right? It's like a walk around in a painting sort of thing from what I gather.
Right now my vote goes to VF5: FS!
It's all game and it's purely awesome =)
DOA5 has a shot at it too, which I do have high hopes for.
