PSXE Poll Update: E3 2012 A Little "Meh" For Most Gamers
With no new hardware and a lot of leaked surprises, it's no wonder that most gamers weren't blown away by this year's E3.
According to our latest poll result, the majority of readers only thought E3 2012 was "okay," although a fair amount were happy with most of the show. We understand how it could be viewed as "underwhelming" but we reserve the right to be excited about the gameplay shown during Sony's press conference. That alone is the reason we were willing to give Sony the win. Beyond: Two Souls was another huge reveal, and we're definitely looking forward to new Vita stuff like Assassin's Creed: Liberation and Black Ops: Declassified.
This week, we theorized that Journey might be the current front-runner for Game of the Year. Would you agree that downloadable games should be in the running for our industry's most prestigious award? Would it have to be something outrageously special to even qualify for a nomination? Or are digital offerings simply not in the same league as full-budget productions? Tell us what you think.

As for Beyond: Two Souls, it was easily among the best of this year's E3 for me. My jaw was on the floor when Sony started with it. I knew that The Last of Us was equally impressive, but I kind of expected it to make an appearance and take my breath away. But Beyond came out of nowhere (luckily I avoided any gaming news prior to watching Sony's press conference) and it easily won me over.

I was disappointed with the lack of TTT2 info but other than that it was a solid show with a slew of highlights for me. Last of Us gameplay & God of War Ascension were the mutts nuts.
The fab four (Last of Us, Beyond, Watch Dogs & GoW Ascension) have me beaming like a proud mother

AC III: Liberation for the Vita will be a definite purchase for me but it was kinda weird how nothing was shown for COD when it's suppose to launch this November.
As for the new poll I definitely think a downloadable game is eligible for GOTY. Why not it's still a game just like the retail games. just a smaller budget.

I have been saying this all year though, I mean Max Payne 3 seems alright, I think I will pic that up later this year ad RE6 seems more promising than the last game so there is still hope for 2012 - But I have just bought a Wii for the price of a retail game so I might finally get around to playing these Zelda games instead to see what I've been missing.

it was a disappointment because of what was shown!
we should of known few surprises would be there, the past few years have not had many in fact if anything this year had the most with watch dogs, splinter cell blacklist and beyond two souls.
it was a disappointment because most of the games, the stuff we already knew was coming looked pretty mediocre.
ninty was a flat out train wreck, so was EA besides crysis 3, ubisoft did not put its best foot forward with AC3 and FC3, $ony left out the vita and so many ps3 games like the new R&C.
its not the lack of surprises that was disappointing, we knew that was going to happen!
it was the lack of OMFG THAT LOOKS SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that spoiled it.
we had plenty of eh that looks ok, none of the exciting stuff you expect from E3.
just goes back to what i constantly keep saying about this year being a massive disappointment!
best game ive played this year is uncharted golden abyss!
in a year where we had ME3, diablo 3, MP3, 3 of the biggest franchises in the industry, i think thats pretty dam pathetic!
and very depressing.........
as for PSN games being GOTY no they shouldent.
simply because there small budget games normally, you would expect a 500K supercar to be faster than a 20K hatchback no?
asumption being up to a certain point a game that costs more to make should be better than one that costs far less.
and notice i said FAR less!
not saying a 50M game should be better than a 40M game, just that you would assume a high budget game will sell better than a small one.
simply because the budgets have limits and theres only so much content you can put into a DL game.
not to mention the amount of people you can hire, how long you can spend polishing it ect, ect.
joe danger is one of the best downloadable games ever made, but no freaking way in hell should it ever be given GOTY!
another thing being we will always have big franchises like GTA, ME, GOW, ect, ect.
the day a PSN game gets GOTY will be the day i stop playing games!
you would not expect a portable game like vita 3Ds or mobile game to be GOTY.
let alone PSN game!
for 15-20 bucks you can only cram in so much awesomeness compare to a 80-100 title.

A game that is downloadable could be game of the year, it's not about the GB on the disc, it's about the gameplay, and the feeling you get from the game.

of course its a unfair comparison, thats what i was saying that PSN games SHOULD not be given GOTY!
simply because, well, if we have a PSN game the best as the year thats pretty disappointing!
if you worked for top gear, and the fastest car you got to see let alone drive this year was a suzuki swift you would be disappointed no?
thats the point, there should always be better games than PSN games simply because quality to a certain point should be proportionate to budget.
as i said the day a PSN game, journey for instance, becomes a better game than a retail game, like U3 for instance, ill stop gaming!
