EA Teams Up With Dreamworks, Need For Speed Movie Coming

In all honesty, I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet.

Another one of video game's most iconic industries will be making its way to the big screen. Electronic Arts and Dreamworks have announced a partnership that will bring "Need for Speed" to movie theaters in 2014.

Dubbed a "fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the '70s," they still plan to keep the production faithful to the game franchise. At the directing helm will be Scott Waugh, who handled "Act of Valor" and also worked on the stunt crews for movies like "The Italian Job" and "Biker Boyz." The screenplay will come from George Gaitins, Dreamworks executive producer for "She's Out of My League. Production should start early next year.

Well, it could turn out just fine. Seems like just another "Fast and the Furious," which did quite well in the box office, right? The only question is whether or not the NFS fans really care about watching fast cars...I mean, as opposed to driving 'em.

Production starts on the sequel this summer, and yes Rodriguez is involved with this one as well. Supposed to be released on October 4, 2013, as of right now.

I doubt its gonna be bad I mean like Ben said its just another fast and the furious, lol when have they ever done race/car chase movies wrong? lets see fast in the furious, gone in 60 seconds, the Italian job (even the new one) Redline (wasnt great but was ok) etc etc so I doubt Need For Speed will be bad.. I just hope it snot in the 70s and theyll be police chases and not just racing (i like NFS for their hot pursuit/most wanted games.. i couldnt care less about their purely racing with no cops involved games)

yay, another mindless action film like fast and furious!
thats totally what we need!
sigh.
i guess the ask of getting a proper car film today like bullet or vanishing point is just too much to ask.

oh well, as long as they dont hire vin diesel!
