Journey Collector's Edition Dated, Priced

We were so excited to hear about the Blu-Ray Journey Collector's Edition that it prompted last week's poll question.

And now we're even more excited because developer Thatgamecompany has made the official announcement.

The Collector's Edition in question, which will feature all three of the talented studio's PlayStation Network titles - flOw, Flower, and Journey - will be available in stores for the PlayStation 3 on August 28 in North America (dates for other territories forthcoming). And for a price tag of only $29.99, we get a seriously awesome package:

  • 30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Journey
  • Creator Commentary play-throughs of all three games
  • Three exclusive mini-games from thatgamecompany
  • Concept art and screenshot galleries for all three games
  • Original soundtracks for all three games
  • PS3 dynamic themes and wallpapers
  • PSN avatars including 8 exclusive new Journey avatars never released before
  • Official game trailers and developer diary videos
  • Reversible cover art

The commentary play-throughs seem like a fantastic idea and the three exclusive mini games have a unique distinction: Each one was created by Thatgamecompany in what they called a "24hr Game Jam." That's right, the game was created and completed in the span of one day. The mini experiences are Gravediggers, Nostril Shot, and Duke War!!

Man, gotta get this.

Looks like a pretty slick package for a great price. I don't own any of these as downloads yet. When I can I'll snag this collection.

Day One Purchase for sure. This is way too good of a deal to pass up. I haven't had the chance to play any of these titles yet so I'm excited.

I own all three games digitally and now I'm going to re-buy them on disc. This development team deserves all the support and respect possible and even if this edition didn't include all the AMAZING sounding extras, I'd still be buying it. thatgamecompany, to me, has been this generation's answer to last generation's Team ICO.

I've been curious about Journey for a while so I might pick this up... I still see the other titles as tech-demos rather than games.

I may have to eat my words. I said I wouldn't buy this because I already bought all 3 games on PSN... But of course they had to go and add a bunch of goodies in there that I want. Oh well, if there's one company I don't feel bad about throwing some extra cash at, it's thatgamecompany.

I can't wait to see what they do next.

Same. I just the other day said I really had no need to buy this collection as I own all 3. But they sure do give alot of reason to give them my money. And after playing through Journey again this weekend, I def forsee myself buying this later in the summer.

I wanted all three of these games SO bad but kept holding back on getting them. Now all three of them are on a bluray disc with a whole bunch of extra stuff... count me in!

I have both Flow and Flower, but I haven't tried Journey yet. This is something I may have to look into.

And now, if Journey does win a Game of the Year award, no one can complain about it being a Download only game.

Unfortunately I own all 3 and the flow DLC. It would be nice if Thatgamecompany showed support to their loyal fans and at least gave them a code for a 20% discount at Gamestop

god i hate it when this happens!
publishers refuse to release something because they say it wont sell well.
than they finally give in and release it in the WORST time!
cough the yakuza series.
sega has whined so much that they dont want to bring it outside of JP because it would not sell well, than they finally give in, release it in the busiest month of the year and it flops!
i wonder why........
now $ony are doing the EXACT same thing!
i mean seriously who the ^%$# is going to buy this over darksiders 2 and sleeping dogs?
not to mention all the other games releasing a week after it like borderlands 2, and FC3 which both will take weeks to finish!

i can see the result of this from a million miles away!
it will release, sell poorly and publishers will use it as a excuse why they refuse to bring their digital games to retail.
sigh.
maybe, just maybe, they would sell well if they were not released up against a bazillion other fuller AAA retail releases!

So, $10 a game, and lots of extras. Sweet.
