Kutaragi Talking PS4 Despite Retirement

Most of the gaming world is well aware of Ken Kutaragi's retirement as Chairman and Group CEO from Sony, but it seems he's already thinking about the PlayStation 4.

In a recent interview with EE Times, he said:

"As a matter of course, I have the vision of Playstation 4, 5 and 6, which will merge into the network."

Kutaragi's decision to step down met with a lot of surprise and even some controversy, as some analysts believe he may have been "squeezed out." But before he leaves, he says he's already turned over his vision for reducing costs along with future PlayStation design models. This means, of course, that the team who initially designed the PS3 has taken Kutaragi's notes and are already looking towards the future.

He made it very clear to EE that the "roadmap" of the PS3 was "always clear in his mind," but he refused to talk more about the future when the system hit blue-violet laser shortages early on. But now that the PS3 is available in Japan, the U.S., and Europe, Kutaragi feels more comfortable in talking about the "next step." And that next step revolves around a "net-based game console." That idea is still a bit of a mystery, but the soon-to-be-former Sony executive believes the world will soon be "ready" for such a platform.

But regardless of which direction the PlayStation brand goes, it's good to know that the "Father of PlayStation" is still thinking and talking about the brand he created.
