Battlefield 3 Premium Tallies 800,000 In Only Two Weeks Time

That didn't take long, did it?

EA Games Label head honcho Patrick Soderlund told USA Today that the new Battlefield 3 Premium service has been sold to 800,000 fans in the first couple of weeks, which translates to $40 million in revenue. Woo-hoo, cash!

Soderlund did say they're ahead of the company's internal projections, but it's still too early to say just how successful the program will be. He added, however, that "it certainly looks very promising right now." If you want to compare to the competition, Activision sold 2 million Call of Duty Elite subscriptions back when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched in November. But considering the difference in overall sales, EA should be happy with the 800,000 start.

If you're unfamiliar the BF3 Premium service, it gives you access to 5 map packs, which add over 20 new arenas to the critically acclaimed shooter, and if you pony up the $50, you get early access to any new forthcoming packs. If you haven't signed up yet and are interested, go ahead and visit the official BF3 website

Not interested in suscriptions. I already paid for the game console and the stand alone game. Thank you very much.

It's a one time fee, it's not monthly or anything. You pay 50 and you get all the upcoming maps and what ever else is included.

Man these are bad.. If they become hits more publishers will adopt them and might force people down the road to get them in order to play the game. Nvr was and Nvr will be a fan.

I bought my friends PC off him that can run BF3 on Medium, he's cleaning the computer out and he's going to be dropping it off at my house in the afternoon, so I'm going to try and get some new games to play for PC, I still need to buy a mouse though.

I don't think I'm going to be getting Premium anytime soon though for BF3, maybe down the road at some point, but not right now when i can spend that 50 on another game, or buy more games on the cheap for PC or my PS3.

Regarding mouse: I can highly recommend the gaming mouses (models named G-<something>) from Logitech. They are incredibly precise and smooth. Plus they are not too darn expensive either.

Yeah, I'm getting the Logitech G400, was going to get the G500 one but I heard that it has an accelerator in it or something that can mess up aiming. So it's either the G400, or the Razer Deathadder.

Gamers can complain all they want about these map packs and season pass DLC but if they continue to sell like this they'll continue to make it.

I'm not too worried about these things, they are after all for these games that people do multiplayer on all friggin year and play nothing else. We can't MAKE them try awesome new games.

This will probably mean longer hype periods for each Battlefield entry.

This is not a subscription. It is pre-paid expansion packs with bonuses for pre-paying. It is a $75 value that will cost you $50 if you decide to pay for it in advance. This is a way for their fans to save money if they intend on buying all of the expansion packs lined up for Battlefield 3.

No big deal, if the fans want to fork out that money let them be. Still love Battlefield but not getting premium.

Its a good deal if you are a fan of the game, same with CoD's elite club. You save money in the long run.

Game companies will keep doing ridiculous things like this because people will keep paying for it. I don't buy dlc, not ever buying this.

Never thought i would but i agree with ________. This is just a bit overboard to me. I don't even really play battlefield anymore. sure it's a great game and i had mass amounts of fun with it. but it just got old. a new map doesn't really change the fact that i've been doing the same thing for over 6 months now. There are other games that i like playing. I'm actually having more fun with Ghost Recon than i have with BF3 in the past couple months. And as always Fifa is my game. I do see why they're doing it and i can see this as a value to some people but $60+ on a game the having to pay an extra $50 is just a bit much for one game. I mean really thats a whole new game basically and like _____ said. There are so much other things you can spend that on. LOL. Just doesn't appeal to me at all.
