Resident Evil 6 May Be Facing A Tragic Lose-Lose Situation
For the record, I haven't played the Resident Evil 6 demo so I won't be making any judgments based on that offering.
But right now, the evidence is starting to mount: Capcom may be facing a lose-lose situation when they launch Resident Evil 6 in October. I hate to say this considering the iconic nature of the franchise, but a great many are sensing something...well, just shy of disaster.
Thing is, it may have enough flash and style to appeal to a wide demographic, including younger gamers who don't really know anything about what RE used to be (and furthermore, don't care). In other words, the switch to "action/drama" is probably a good idea as it will undoubtedly lure new players to the series. On the other hand, yet another Japanese company is in imminent danger of alienating the fans that helped build the franchise to begin with. The complaints concerning the demo make it obvious that despite Capcom's claims of "returning to RE's roots," it doesn't really seem to be happening.
But here's the fun part- The majority of significant critics are older and absolutely do remember those Resident Evil roots, and it appears - at first glance - that a great many won't reward RE6 for moving away from the franchise's horror origin. And if it gets lower-than-expected scores, sales could suffer - regardless of the new fans to whom RE6 might appeal - and oh yeah, it's hitting in October. At that time, gamers everywhere are looking at the fall lineup and deciding which of the many available titles deserve their hard-earned cash. Could this be an epic lose-lose scenario...?
Well, maybe not. The awfully mediocre Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City still sold pretty damn well. Then again, it was also another nail in the coffin as far as the veteran followers are concerned...

It's obvious that the health regeneration system is based on what you have in CoD games. Where the necessity of being on the go at all times & shooting things is king. And considering that Resident Evil is trying to cater to the same casuals that adore CoD, that regeneration system is just another way to throw those type of gamers a bone (while flipping the bird to old fans).
It's funny that those that hated on the RE live-action movies used to say that at least the games where still true to the series roots. Well, presently the games have become like the movies. Just mindless and constant action. So no one can say that anymore.
Just so people understand what's the difference between old Resident Evil games and current versions, the old games where "Avoid-Them ups" (so little ammo forced you to avoid confrontations when possible) while present games are just "Shoot-em ups" (you pretty much have to shoot every enemy - in RE4 you were rewarded after every kill).
But yeah, RE6 will be incredibly successful despite not being survival-horror and despite looking like a 2 year old game. Because technically speaking the graphics are underwhelming and the camera just blows chunks. But if Operation Raccoon City was a success despite it's many flaws, certainly RE6 will be just as big if not bigger.
RE6 is just a sign of the times.

I'm happy to let it be until it is at an inconsequential price. I'm betting my money on Dishonored.

I guess if I worked at Capcom I'd be rolling in the dough and laughing at how easy it is to do whatever you want for a while as long as you have an established brand.

im not a real fan of chris mode.
it feels so much like a gears game, it has totally lost the strategic suspenseful feel of RE5.
leons was really good actually, it felt allot like RE4.
EXACTLY what it should be!
all it needs is the exploration and real survival horror themes like RE revelations, such a awesome game!
it needs the jumps and scares too.
the environments ect, ect are spot on but theres no climax.
theres eary music galore, thunder, moody lighting effects but theres never something to scare you.
a mixed bag really, leons are good but need more scares, where chris i wont even be wasting my time with that crap!

its GT5, its tried to cram in so much crap, the action of RE5, the set pieces and chases of RE5, and the survival horror of RE of old.
problem is its trying to do so much crap everything gets done half!
its like you have 1 hour to cook dinner, you either devote your time to 1 dish and make it perfect or split it up into 4, now each dish only has 15 minutes no where near enough!
RE5 was bareable because it felt like resident evil crossed with gears.
at least it felt a little bit like a traditional RE game!
its roots were there, they may of been hard to find but they were there!
this however for chris campaign is certainly not there!
its all gears, NO RE!
for leon its classic old RE, i really seriously got sucked into the environment!
come on creepy old dark dusty cluttered mansion?
you cant get any more RE than that!
the environments were perfect, the setting was perfect, the lighting was perfect, the music was perfect!
but wheres the BOO!?
come on crapcom this is 2012, a freaking pot falling off a roof is not going to scare people!
wheres the zombie busting down the door as you go to open it and leaping onto your neck?
i was really hoping leons campaign would be exactly like RE revelations.
exactly how a RE game should be!
it kinda is, it has the tension, the music and the atmosphere, environments of a RE.
but the survival horror aspect IE the constant spawning enemies, puzzles, finding items, backtracking to find a key to a locked door, all that true traditional old school game design is gone!
it just feels like they REALLY want to turn it into a old school RE, but managment wont let them because little timmy might get bored or too scared.
come on crapcom, if your going to do it at least do it properly!
to be honest i would rather crapcom just gave us chris campaign and scrapped leons!
at least that way there not teasing us.
they put the carrot right in front of your face, just out of reach.
there a massive tease, they KNOW we want old school RE back so they deliberately go half way just to tease us.
crapcom, do it properly, or dont do it at all!

Hopefully Leon will be the one and they will also get into account the popularity of Resident Evil: Revelations and give us a proper Resident Evil game based on both .

there doing the 3 campaign thing because there in the mindset that it will make everyone happy.
when all its doing is pissing everyone off!
the .1% who want another gears game get 2 short campaigns, and the 99.9% who want a proper RE game, IE survival horror get a mild atmospheric tense shooter.
its not going to please anyone!
as the saying goes you cant please everyone, so pick a side and stick to it!
crapcoms tried to please everyone, and thus resulting in pissing everyone off!

I didn't like RE5 for it's action but I LOVED RE4 back in the day. I'm also into drama. So I think I won't pass on this, I'll even like it.
