Rockstar, Take-Two's GTAV Silence Translates To...
How would you complete that sentence? Think about it.
These days, major releases are heavily scrutinized for many months, if not years before the game is actually on store shelves. We're allowed to do this because most times, the publisher and developer toss us quite a few bones; we get quotes, media, and other various pieces of information on a relatively routine basis.
One would anticipate the same for Grand Theft Auto V, easily one of the most anticipated titles of the generation. And yet, since its announcement late last year, we've really seen next to nothing, and both Rockstar and Take-Two are mostly silent on the subject. But why? How would you interpret this silence? Is this stretch of surprising quiet due to the fact that Rockstar has hit development snags? Is it because the game is further away than anyone wishes to think? ...is it because they're turning GTAV into a next-gen offering?
I mean, who knows? Silence can be tough to translate. Maybe they'll make a big splash at Gamescom next month and all our questions will be answered. But if not, and we start to get towards the tail end of the summer with next to nothing on our plate, gamers everywhere are going to start to wonder... "What's going on with GTAV?" will be an awfully common question, guaranteed. Silence is just a little unnerving, especially in this information-driven industry.

anyway, we all know what R* is like, they have a way of not releasing a stitch until they decide to, even that 'leaked' info from the start (if true) was probably orchestrated by them. They are among the best Dev houses to keep quiet on everything until they see fit to open up, they are the willy wonka of the games industry.
I would love GTA5 this year, but I just couldn't bank on it.

Omg... You know, if we also take into account how Gearbox are talking about the Furious 4 and how it "keeps evolving" to even go beyond 2013, your speculation there could very well turn out to be a bullseye to the max!
If Rockstar and Gearbox now know something we don't regarding the upcoming generation shift they could *very* well have changed plans for their main projects to hit the next gen train as it leaves the station instead, and thus all of a sudden got a lot more horse power to play with for their projects.
Man, this theory is really giving me the goosebumps here!

Sometimes silence maybe is just silence in this new era of powerful negativity? Pretty early days.

this is R* for crying out loud they ALWAYS stay mum about newly announced games for months!
so this is not exactly new.
i seriously doubt we will see or hear anything for a while yet, let alone next month at gamescom!
this is one of the things i hate about R*, they always announce games so early than 99% of the time the first bit of news we hear about them is that their delayed!
or we just dont hear anything for years cough MP3, LA Noire, and not to mention agent.
that has been announced for FAR longer than GTAV, and we have not even got a trailer for that so why isent anyone worrying about that?
R* will talk about the game when their ready, which wont be for a while yet!
this is not exactly new..........

People in the industry like Michael Pachter love to pressure Rockstar/Take-Two into revealing more of the game. Just to make shareholders & the information-hungry people happy. If they don't reveal nothing in a few more weeks, Pachter will probably get negative on them. And that will probably land him some headlines (regardless of what we might think of Pachter, the guy has some influence in this industry). It will be a calculated move on his part, though. Since he will try to BAIT Rockstar/Take Two into saying something about the game.
