Square Enix Tech Director On FFVII: "I'd Like A Remake"
See, Square Enix? Even your own bosses want a remake.
The PC version of Final Fantasy VII will soon be re-released with some visual retouching, achievements, cloud saves, and a little cheating mechanic that lets the player artificially boost the stats of the characters.
So many have wondered if this might hint at a long-awaited remake. Square Enix is usually vague on the issue, but when FFDream interviewed Julien Merceron, S-E's Worldwide Technology Director, he basically said he'd like to do one. He first admitted to not being one of the decision-makers that would get such a project going, but he added that as "a player and a fan," there's no doubt he'd enjoy seeing a FFVII remake. Here's his response; it's in French but a member of the site was nice enough to translate for us:
"It’s a game that is very precious (important in my heart) to me also, surely you will find on the internet some interviews that I have made in the past that confirmed that. For me, Final Fantasy VII, it was one of the most beautiful experiences. But there are other Final Fantasy [titles] released before that were also superb and then still others after.
Of course, for me, as a player I would. There are people in the company who decide what they do with the brands and what they do and choose with the Final Fantasy franchise, what is right and what isn’t good. I just try to decide on the level of technology and I [leave them to their decisions] but as a player as a fan, yes of course, I'd like a remake."
If you're wondering, Merceron is the guy who went on the record last year, talking about what we can expect in the next generation. He was most recently in the news for saying this generation of hardware has lasted way too long. You may notice he didn't say anything about the technical limitations and difficulties of doing a FFVII remake, and he's a a tech director, so...maybe that's encouraging?

FFVII has had a prequel, Sequel, a movie and people still want more. I personal want one more games as DoC left the ending open. Heck they're now even re-releasing it on PC to be compatible with HD monitors - Hasn't VII had enough already?

Why are you surprised?
As for me, just for releasing that tech demo, I sure as heck hope it never dies.
More... we need more FFVII. God of War knows we've had shite for FF this past half decade.

FFVII's tech demo came nearly a full decade later. Plus, they continue to tease with stuff on their twitter page, asking fans if they'd really like a remake. Staff like this guy make comments. And while some people say it'll never happen, others say they aren't opposed to the idea, but they have other priorities. Lately, there has been less absolutely no answers, and more, just not right now sort of answers.
It's not the same at all.

yep, check this vid out. This one is longer than the one I remember. But back then my friends loved Nintendo and hated the thought of Sony getting an FF game. THey held this tech demo close to their heart, feeling safe that it would eventually happen for N64.

But eh.... these sort of facts, along with others, have no place on the internet, I suppose. Not when subjective -preferences- rule the day...

If Big bosses from within Square Enix keep talking about it, guess what? ... Gaming sites are going to cover it.
You think IGN -doesn't- post FFVII news items a few times a year? Think again.
If you don't like the topic of a certain article, don't flippin' read it. I don't read every single article. (I read most, just not all)
I mean... of course it's going to get attention... SE publicly asks if people want an FFVII remake on their twitter account... different execs and devs from within SE bring it up from time to time.... lately, they haven't said they won't ever do it, (although they said they have other priorities right now)... and when they made that tech demo, it came about a decade after the original release.
I'm not sure what you expected.......
EDIT: By the way, most gaming sites have been making articles about FFVII this year with more regularity... something to think about. (And not just this site either. IGN had 3-4 last month alone on FFVII material)

Time to come out of your dream world... I'm still waiting for you to counter a single solitary point I've made. I've addressed every point you've made, and made it look like a wet puppy in a flash freeze...
If your only responses from here on in are going to be lame-o attempts to scoff (the only option you have, really, if you need to continue to disagree), I'm just gonna have to let you continue to bite at ankles while I continue on my superior way.

The same thing could be said about people wanting a TLOD sequel, prequel, remake or w/e.

What? no talk about epic bringing gears to the ps3? Even in that article it said "it's never gonna happen". Why stop there? Hey I want blue dragon on the ps3. Let me guess, Ben doesn't like the game much so he doesn't bring it up.
By the way ff7 wasn't all that. Geez, the load times had more lag than Bath and Body Works has oils and lotions. Random battles going from point a to point b. Read the review of the former xplay on g4 host says about it.
Again, let's talk about a game that's in the "what if" phase that may take 4 to 5 years to make. How many "what if this game gets a sequel or remade" topics are you gonna make?
IGN? The company who dissed the ps vita on the cost of the handheld and their high cost of the gigabyte memory cards. And they had the nerve to compare the vita to the 360.

Hey, here's a topic, I like mario, gears, and other exclusive games that aren't on the ps3, but are they coming?
ff7 was released in 2007, 2007. And you think it's gonna get released? My mistake, sony and square ARE making this game like grand turismo. There just keep pushing back the release date, am i right?
This topic isn't about a game that's not going to get released but pretending that it was? Cause that would be corny, lame, foolish. By the way, are you guys on team edward or team jacob?
Losers. To each there own I guess.
Love ya.

Anyways, I'm probably just gonna stop replying to you until you or ultimadream can legitimately counter the points I made.
Simply skipping them and clinging to your own POV is extremely escapist. And a bit depressing.
But at least I can, yet again, go with the knowledge that I am right....
Speaking of which... maybe I should start declaring truths without complete knowledge... mix things up... be wrong once in a while. Easy ownage is getting boring...
