Ratchet & Clank Returning To Its Roots...With A Twist Or Two
Maybe you're not the biggest fan of the direction Ratchet & Clank has taken over the past few years. Maybe you just want the good ol' traditional single-player-oriented adventure back.
If so, than you'll very likely welcome Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, the new Insomniac title slated for the PlayStation Network. They've given us a few more gameplay details over at the PlayStation Blog, and they're awfully encouraging for the long-time fans.
In addition to returning to the "classic camera, weapons and third-person Ratchet gameplay that the series is known for," the team is also tossing in a new tower defense element. That means building and defending a base against alien invaders, which adds an interesting level of intrigue and strategy to the standard action/platforming mechanic. On top of which, we'll actually be able to choose our character: We can play as Ratchet, Clank or Captain Qwark. Once you've selected your hero, you're off an a quest spanning five levels across three different planets.
Oh, and the ever-popular co-op is available as well, both online and offline (split-screen). Long live R&C!

after playing each and every R&C about 20 times now i have to say ACIT is the best of all of them!
really loved the gameplay, and especially the added weapon mods you can get with raretanium.
and the time puzzles for clank were so much fun and so clever!
best R&C game!
and one of the best ps3 games!

Tower style games bring back bad memories of Warcraft 2 and 3. My friends and I would play co-op, like 4 vs 4 matches against the comp, or something. There was always bound to be one or two friends who would just bunker down and build fortress-maximus bases with tons and tons of towers. It was slow and pointless and annoying. Myself and another friend would have all 4 of the enemies wiped out before our other fortress maximus friend ever left his castle. anyway, that was pretty much it for me and tower defense games. Honestly, I think the whole genre was birthed from guys who stayed home and played "base" in RTS games. anyway, funny stuff =p

A little skeptical. I expect it to be fun, but fall far short of the two true Ratchet games that have come out this generation. Still, if the price is right, i'll buy. Still feel kind of burned for paying $15 for Quest for Booty and playing it end to end in two hours.

sigh.
god i HATE insomniac!
they have gone from my most favourite of developers to my most hated in the space of 2 games!
thats gotta be a record!
i was so upset when the rumours that R&C ACIT would be the last R&C game.
then i finished the game and was so relieved!
and you know what?
now i wish it was the last R&C game!
because at least then it would of died with some dignity!
instead, its been milked to hell, and turned into this sh*t!
sigh.
RIP R&C.
2004-2009.
:(
oh why do the beautiful always die so young!?

This game, the HD Collection + Ratchet: Deadlocked HD later, Sly: Thieves in Time, and Rayman Legend. Now if only Jak IV or a Jak and Daxter Volume II HD Collection was around, this would be the perfect Christmas for platformers.

But I SOOO badly wish this had a disk version in the USA. Importing gets super expensive fast.
