Ubisoft Evidently Adopting "Season Pass" For Assassin's Creed III

The idea of gaining access to a ton of downloadable content by paying one package price has worked out well. Just ask Activision (Call of Duty Elite) and EA (Battlefield Premium).

And it seems Ubisoft will be next on the bandwagon. In an appreciative note the publisher sent to GameStop stores (as leaked by Kotaku), they first thank the retailer for hitting pre-order goals. Employees get a little bonus for that, too.

But it's also clear that Ubisoft will be spending a fair amount of time producing extra content for the potential Game of the Year contender. In fact, there will be enough to warrant a "season pass" of some kind, which we have to assume would act very much like other DLC promotions. It doesn't specify what sort of DLC we can expect, but remember that Ubisoft has released extra single-player content for previous Assassin's Creed installments, so we're moderately enthusiastic.

Well, when games are this big and sales are expected to be in the 8-10 million range lifetime, DLC is probably a must and a whole lot of people will want it. Will you?

Yeah, I would be interested in this depending on what type of DLC it is. Not really interested in MP only DLC.

Yuck. The thought of Gamestop employees having pre-order sales quotas and kickbacks makes me feel icky.

Exactly what's so bad about a retailer having sales goals? Or for the employees of said retailer getting a bonus for reaching those goals? Seems to me as if people are just being rewarded for doing their job well.

I think his complaint is more with Ubisoft rewarding them. Which I guess is fine as well, but it does have other implications when it isn't an internal sales goal.

No I'm just saying the thought of Gamestop employees salivating when I walk in the door because they have a big list of crap to force on me is disconcerting.

Actually World, you are right... its not a great prospect to think this is going on. When I walk into a store I already know what I want, and have done the relevant research, so I don't typically ask for employees to assist me.

For the most part I simply do not want to entertain their bias :)

Probably not. I adore this franchise, but I still haven't bought much dlc from it. A while back, some for AC2 came out cheap for Plus members, and I got it then... but I had no real motivation to invest.

I don't know, something about these subscriptions just rubs me the wrong way. I can't help but feel like they are gimping the game in some way, even if its minor, so they can make more money. I'm sure ACIII will be nothing short of amazing and i do believe it will be "almost" complete. i just can't help but think it may lack something. What??? I have no clue. I guess we'll see. I have full confidence in Ubisoft but i just don't like these subscription services, even if they are inevitable.

eh, not exactly surprising.
DLC and online passes are sadly becoming par for the course.
it does get really annoying, especially online passes but the problem is people whine till their faces are blue about them than go buy the game anyway.
like a friend of mine said oh im not getting ME3 because it has a online pass.
day of release i turn my 360 on and there he is playing the game.
as cliffy b once said haters will hate right to the cash register!
