Square Enix May Announce Final Fantasy XIII-3 In September
Final Fantasy XIII-2 was a surprise. But with what we now know, Final Fantasy XIII-3 won't be too much of a shock.
Given the cliffhanger ending in FFXIII-2 and the fact that no amount of DLC will answer all the hanging questions, along with hints from Square Enix themselves, yet another sequel is quite possible.
And now it seems we might learn all about it on September 1. Franchise producer Yoshinori Kitase informed Famitsu (as cited by Gaming Everything) that development on the new Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Saga project has already begun.
On top of which, they'll supposedly unveil the official name at the upcoming Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary event in Japan, which takes place on the first of September. Now, that "New Developments" presentation might only involve more Lightning-based DLC for FFXIII-2, but it seems unlikely. Square Enix is also on record saying they need to produce games at a faster clip, which is why we think they're embracing the "annualization" philosophy. ...as much as we may hate it.
So yeah, prepare yourself...FFXIII-3 may be inevitable.

And then the painful experience in the slot machines which I have to endure just to get 1 of the fragment. And then upon reflecting on the story I've realized some stupidity in it, for example where Noel came from Cocoon fell and many died because their is a city right underneath cocoon and then he has a chance to change it cause he can now travel back in time, he meet Hope tells about the future he came from about Cocoons fall. Hope now knows the fall of cocoon still they built Academia, and a a stupid plan to construct new cocoon and make it float which started construction even if they didn't know how to float it yet which they resolve 300+ years in the future, the plan was suggested by Hope and Alyssa, so they should monitor the construction, but what did they do, they build a time capsule and went to the future, maybe he left the construction in the hands of his father but it doesn't say that in the game. And then I search the internet for some answer and found some like me who also questions the plot hole. Now I hated XIII-2 because I did love the story in XIII and then they just f*uck it all away. These are some of my reasons why I hated XIII-2.

Keep in mind I didn't say this was a great FF title, but it's still a pretty good JRPG in an age where we lack AAA JRPGs.
Is it fun? Yes. Is the story decent? It was enough to keep me going, even with some plot holes. Does it look great? Yup. is the music good? I actually liked a lot of the vocal tracks, and thought the chocobo music was the best in the series. (minus the scream track, yuck). Is it like old FFs? No. And this is why people complain. I liked the age of yore better than these current FFs, but I mean, come on, people absolutely trash this game! It's not as good as old FFs, but it doesn't deserve the severely awful reputation it's getting.
I understand that Versus has been put on the back burner because of this (pisses me off too) but don't trash a decent game. I think one of the problems with this generation is people expect AAA quality out of everything. I see people knock games regularly that score 7s and 8s out of 10 as if they would rather receive reindeer shit instead of those games for Christmas.

@World: The quality dropped in some areas and were better in others. In terms of story (going with the general consensus here, as I thought the story of XIII was awful) XIII-2 isn't as linear, but you get to know more of the world. You start finding out reasons for things, instead of just "let's run in a straight line to see the next cutscene of the characters talking about how much trouble they're in." The battle system is also better in every way. The ability to change leaders and customize monsters added a much needed layer to what was lacking from XIII.
I gotta agree that in terms of graphics (it still looks great though, this is so nitpicky) yes it did falter compared to its predecessor, but it's so minor. Also the lack of FMV cutscenes obviously should fit under this category.
Back to the story. Noel, Caius, and Yuel are far more interesting than any of the good or bad guys from XIII. The only character I was interested in from XIII was Sazh, because I felt bad for him, and he was actually relatable. Caius was doing all of what he was doing for a very human reason, while in XIII you're left wondering about the bad guys: OK, so what was their motivation? XIII-2 has a couple plot holes, but I was far more interested in the outcomes of the characters throughout the entire game.

Maybe It's because I have read these so that's why I love the story in XIII so much.
Here's a link for some of the details.

I won't lie, I only want it out of a form of order. I was content with XIII-1 alone. I enjoyed XIII-2, but it was far from the standard I expect from Final Fantasy. Like many others I just want a new Final Fantasy all together (XV).
Also vsXIII... well surely we must get a release date from this event. I would be content with a 2013 summer release & 2014 spring/summer for XIII-3. Then there is Type-0... Which seems like it might stay a Japan exclusive forever...

SE only cares about the bottom line, and not whiny forum posts. No matter how intense your morbid curiosity may be, no matter how quickly it drops in price, just stop buying it! I could purchase FFXIII-2 new for under $15 right now, but I will not. I will not contribute to the destruction of this series by rewarding SE in any way. It will only continue to get worse while people are giving them money.

While I do admit the storyline seems a little washed out, not NEAR as bad as FF X-2. Geez..clothes? REALLY? I looked past the silliness, and played on. All of these games are marvels in their own right, impossible to have been made not even 10 years ago; this gen has surprised me, delighted me, and restored my faith in life, the universe, and everything....sorta. I'm not saying buy something if you hate it, no, I'm stating to view them as the marvels they are; there is a rather vast assortment of things to see, do, and conquer, blow up, slice up, get bloody, get nasty, and never leave your own couch. Like I said, I've been gaming since day one, and I see some great stories, characters, and worlds that never would have been otherwise.
Oh, if you're curious..I do have wall scrolls of XIII on my game room wall, two as a matter of fact, and yes, I'll get the third installment...whether it belongs in an iconic spot on my shelf game play will tell, I'd rather read the book than judge it's cover.
Peace....

It is easy for S/E to make sequels for this game than to make Versus or a new Final Fantasy, because all they have to do is reuse and tweak the engine add new story, a little new content and re-release the game.
I think Xiii-3 will be the last or S/E my be literally hunted down by fans.
