Darksiders II Crucible Mode: Take An Action-Packed Gamble

Darksiders II is a big game. And the further you go, the more powerful you will become. That only stands to reason.

But are you capable of handling The Crucible? It's a 100-level pure combat challenge, where the encounters become progressively tougher and the risk vs. reward question gets thornier with every passing battle...

In this hotly contested mode, you will be given the option to quit after every five waves of enemies. If you choose to quit, you'll receive a reward based on your achievement and that will be the end. However, if you choose to continue, you can earn even better goodies...provided you don't lose. You have to reach the next plateau where you're again given the option to quit; if you lose before that, you get nothing. So, ready to take a gamble?

Darksiders II hits on Tuesday, August 14. Our review should be live late that night; in the meantime, feel free to check out our interview with associate producer Jay Fitzloff.

Man I so can't wait. I will complete all 100 levels. What would be awesome if there was someway they could add more to it as DLC or even make it to where you could play as War. I could see adding War could be difficult since you can't earn xp in The Crucible. Only 2 days away from tons of fun.

I hate challenges like that, the tower in Soul Calibur IV drove me crazy.

I know we're getting the review soon but, hey Ben, can you say if the graphics are much better this time?

I thought the graphics in the first one were pretty good. I really love Joe Mad's art style.

Well the good thing is that there isn't any trophies related to crucible mode. You get an avatar for completing all 100 levels. And deaths ultimate armor.

Problem is, World, I didn't play or review the first one. I did see it when a friend was playing it, and I know the sequel is just much bigger and deeper, but I really can't remember the graphics accurately enough to compare and contrast.

I CAN say the graphics in DSII are pretty good, if not fantastic. The emphasis is clearly on the excellent art style and design, just without the highest level of polish and gloss we might be used to seeing in other top-end titles.

That being said, I love the art style and that lacking doesn't bother me a bit...almost gives it more character, I think.

Thankfully the leaked trophy list doesn't show any trophies related to this mode.

I hope the crucible is the same difficulty no matter what difficulty you pick at the start .

It look fun but i m not a big fan of having to restart from the beginning in those .I wish it saved sometime , like every 20 levels or so .

Would make it more fun and less frustrating in my opinion .
