Negative Fan Reaction To Hitman Saints Trailer Yields Results

You've got to be careful when releasing new content to die-hard fans of any given franchise. Always.

When the Saints trailer for Hitman: Absolution debuted, it generated a whole lot of backlash centered on its shootout-style atmosphere. Why? Because that patented stealth for which the series is so well known just didn't exist.

As a result, developer IO Interactive has responded; director Tore Blystad told Eurogamer that while the Saints trailer is based on a level within the game, and you don't have to approach it with guns blazing, they could've done the video differently.

"We learned from the trailer that we really needed to give these characters some context and some backstory. We're working within the game - within that level - to build these characters up before you meet them. That way you know what you're getting and you aren't put off by them.

We were surprised by the reaction to it. We've been trying to find out, y'know, how could we not see this happening? If we knew it would get such a negative reaction we would have done it in a different way."

Blystad added that the team was inspired by "Grindhouse"-style movies so the trailer fit the style, but the Saints is a "more extreme level in the game than others." Hope that appeases the fans.

I liked the trailer. The keyword is "based" of the level. Not how it actually plays.

I guess some fans are forgetting in the Hitman games you could approach every mission with guns blazing except for the ones where you can't get detected at all or you lose. That's the beauty of the Hitman games, you could do either one.

Or any stealth game that has that option for that matter, but it is more satisfying doing the mission with stealth in my opinion.

Did somebody say Grindhouse? I'm wondering what the ladies think of the trailer.

I thought the trailer was pretty cool. I'm also not a fan of Hitman so it doesn't matter to how this game plays. I've tried to play them but just couldn't get into them.

I agree with the sentiment, this is a trailer that does not even appear to have any gameplay. Folks should settle down until there's something to get upset over.

Sorry Ben, but those type of dorks get me right angry. These are the same type of nerds who sit and watch star trek and go over it with a fine tooth comb then go to a convention and ask the cast why the engine can go warp speed but not light speed or whatever. It just gets my blood boiling. These devs are trying to set a mood am I right?

They're just women dressed as leather-bondage nuns.

Some of these people really need to take a step back & start focusing on fixing the real life crime in the streets we live in instead of harmless pixels that us as individuals have a choice to view or not to view.

Stop mothering people's personal entertainment & get a life.

I actually liked this trailer... It wasn't just me getting a exploitation vibe from it all then like Grindhouse. Served it's purpose. I think they're being constructive with the feedback though in terms of the saints being in the actual game and giving them depth.

this is what REALLY PISSES me off about developers these days!
they stick their finger in the lamp socket and get electrocuted, than go do it again and again and again!
ever since this game has been announced its been criticized for being a mindless action game!
so how couldent they expect this would blow the fan through the roof!?
i mean come on, i banged my bosses wife, i blew his 18M dollar house to the ground, i trashed his 1.2M dollar sports car so why is he so pissed off at me?
he should be elated!
rolls eyes.

and this is exactly why 99% of games these days SUCK!
they cant be 1 thing, they have to be everything rolled into one!
EA a perfect example every single game they have made this gen is trying to cram everything in!
dead space a perfect example, its not enough for it to be a horror game it has to be a horror game, and a gears wannabe and a lost planet wannabe!
why cant it just be one thing?
they do realize by stretching it out to every genre there ruining the game this destroying its sales right?
i really cant understand why publishers refuse to understand that!
they think customers are idiots, they see the game advertised as x,x,x,x,x and x, and anyone who likes one of those xs will go buy it.
ah, nah, it does not work like that!
someone who wants a gears game is not going to go buy dead space!
and someone who wants a horror game is not going to go buy gears!
i wish publishers would get that through their god dam thick skulls!

Are you kidding me?! I AM, one of those fans of the game and no, I wouldn't say that because of no stealth I'm so...

Look, IT's A TRAILER! Jeezus. Just bask in the merciless response to fire upon 47 in the trailer and realise that it's still the same game that we've all fell in love with.

YEAH! Hitman! Hope he still sounds the sophisticated devil-type.

I played the original Hitman games religiously and this new one is so far removed from the originals, going by the trailers, i have to concur with the complainers. It's just so OTT like most things this gen.

Who cares if its "so far removed from the originals." It's a game. What you expect every sequel to be EXACTLY like the original? That would be pointless and boring. If that were the case I would have stopped a hitman 3. Adding new elements, and fresh gameplay is good. Makes it fun. Keeps you guessing. If I weren't such a fan of this game already I'd be buying this game Day 1 out of pure spite.

No, but i expect the familiarity of the name to offer me familiarity from the game. I don't want exactly the same, but removing most things we love about an old series (an all too familiar thing these days) for apparent dumb down...is frustrating.
A massive evolution is FFVl to FFVll. NOT FFVl to FFXlll for example, and this game seems to be showcasing the latter type of change. An unwelcome change.

And...evidently, many people care about this.

I've watched this trailer a few times now because i like it,some people just don't get what the developers are trying to get across, there loss i guess, like a lot of other people i pre-ordered the game a good while back and i played the free down loadable game Hit-man absolution,ok i know it's not in the main game its self but it plays just like i was hoping it would do if not more so,i for one am well looking forward to this game and i'll be playing it through the early hours of the morning on day one. ;-)

I liked the trailer. Nothing you wouldn't see in an action flick. Yes by all means focus on their back stories. The new hitman game is looking pretty good so far.

Some folks need to lighten up and get over themselves...It's just a game, it's not real..
