Sony: PS3 A "Perfect New Platform To Join This Christmas"
Come November, the PlayStation 3 will turn six years old. For past console cycles, this means your time is past; you're borderline ancient in the world of electronics.
But Sony has said numerous times before that their current console is really just hitting its stride, and Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida recently reiterated that sentiment. As he says, it's "prime time" for the PS3.
"PS3 is I think in prime time. It's a great time for consumers to look at purchasing PS3 this year. There are a variety of games coming out and new and exciting games coming out next year.
At the same time the library of games we are able to offer at a very affordable price - we just announced the Essentials line in Europe. So, for the budget conscious consumer it's a perfect new platform to join this Christmas."
And if you've already got a PS3, you probably already realize that the system is far from bowing out. Yoshida cites Naughty Dog's upcoming The Last Of Us as well as Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls; plus we have to add that God of War: Ascension is another grand reason to be a PS3 owner. As for the rumor concerning the new "super slim" PS3, Yoshida just says "there are lots of different kinds of rumors on the Internet."
...so will it be announced at the Tokyo Game Show? Either way, the PS3 is doing just fine, thank you.

I'm not concerned about a super slim at TGS but they better show something from The Last Guardian or I'm writing it off. And if SE doesn't show Versus that's big trouble for them.

otherwise not quite, in fact its the WORST system this year to join!
i never knew kids game, kids game, kids game and kids game was considered "variety"........
never thought id see the year where ninty and M$ have more exclusives releasing than $ony!
as for the redesigned ps3, well, they practically confirmed it!
jim ryan i think it was got asked why it was not at gamescom and he said we wanted to focus on software, with all the games we showed off for the vita we thought it was not the right time to reveal hardware.
not to mention all the leaked pictures so its hardly your typical internet rumor!
interesting yoshida said there wont be a price drop for the ps3 anytime soon either.
hmmmmm, either hes lying or the redesigned ps3 is really not going to help them much.
theres really no point releasing a newer ps3 if its going to be the same price!
ok parts may be cheaper to manufacture, but if there not going to pass that saving onto the customers than its not going to wield the benefit it could.

I'm not sure what you are talking about here? I dont know about nintendo and their exclusives but Sony sure beat out MS in terms of the numbers of exclusives that was released and their are plenty more coming from Sony.
If history is to be repeated, the new superslim will be cheaper then the current system due to low cost of manufacturing it. Sony have a history of that. As for the longevity of the PS3, there are tons and tons of games that I have not played on the PS3 that I want to play. I will for sure get the PS4 but at the same time i will be still playing PS3 games just like how im still playing PS1 and PS2 games.
Once the PS4 is released it doesnt make the PS3 obsolete unlese its backward compatible with ps3 games.

M$ has halo 4, forza horizon, plus all their crappy kids games, and all their kinect games.
$ony, well, you have PASBR, LBP karting, and what else?
than if we filter it by games most fans will actually want, M$ has 2 and $ony has none!
exactly what i meant, i cant remember the last time i was looking forward to more games on a M$ system than i have a $ony one!

Personally, I've got a nice backlog that should take me well overall year to catch up on. I'd love to be happily busy playing PS3 games a year into the life cycle of the PS4!
