The Last Guardian Devs Were Forced To "Re-Do" Some Work

Earlier, it was rumored that The Last Guardian may have been tragically abandoned.

And oh how tragic that would've been. But as we found out from SCEA's Eric Levine - and posted up on Twitter immediately thereafter - the game is indeed still in development. But what's the current status of the title?

Eurogamer asked Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida that very thing at Gamescom, and his reply was...well, sort of encouraging, depending on your point of view.

"The team is still working on it very hard There are certain technical issues they've been working on. That's the period of time when the game, looking from the outside, doesn't seem to be making much progress. But internally there is a lot of work going into creating the title."

It seems the biggest problem is that the team had to go back and make significant changes. Unfortunately, Yoshida says the technical issues turned out to be very problematic, which has resulted in this lengthy development cycle. Basically, the team had to go back and fix stuff.

"We had the game playable. At one point we felt that it would be produced for a certain time period. That was the time we prematurely talked about the launch window. But it turned out the technical issues are much harder to solve. So the engineering team had to go back and re-do some of the work they had done."

It's never good to get deep into a project only to learn that the game simply doesn't work. Or at least, it doesn't work half as good as you had anticipated. And when it comes to The Last Guardian, expectations are through the roof, so... But anyway, yes, this is still a PS3 game. For now.
