Square Enix's Hints Make It Seem Like FFXIII-3 Is Inevitable

Like it or not, the evidence is piling up.

Here's what we know: Anybody who completed Final Fantasy XIII-2 is well aware of the number of unfinished plot points, not all of which were satisfied by the seven alternate endings or by the extra downloadable content. That's first and most obvious.

Second, we know that Square Enix has said on multiple occasions that they have to release games at a faster clip in order to be competitive. When they say this in interviews, they often cite Western franchises...franchises that typically get annual installments. It was less than two years between the North American release of FFXIII and FFXIII-2 and S-E said even that was too long. Thirdly and lastly, the hints pertaining to a new Lighting storyline are everywhere, and the latest clue implies that the next step won't just be DLC...

Check this website: After confirming that the "Lightning Saga" that began with FFXIII has shipped a total of 9.6 million units, they said FFXIII-2 was "brought to conclusion with the add-on content entitled 'Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess.'" Okay, so that means FFXIII-2 is done, right? And yet, there's this very clear implication-

Key members of the FINAL FANTASY XIII development team including the Producer, Director and Art Director, are in preparations to present new information about the direction of Lightning's story. This presentation will take place at an event in Tokyo to celebrate FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary, on 1st September 2012.

Brace yourselves because yeah, we say FFXIII-3 is coming. Soon.

I'm not gonna buy it and damn my PS3 library lacks any SE game! I thought about sleeping dogs but after playing the demo I didn't like it :S

I hope so, I just want them to finish the series with some dignity. I would hate for the series to end with DLC. Where it will go with XIII-3 I have no idea though. XIII-2 was convoluted enough already.

Cannot wait for September the 1st, expecting a lot of stuff vs XIII release date and XIII Type-0 too.

I would be shocked if this mini-series finishes out with any dignity at all.

Yeah I figured it had to be done after the terrible ending to XIII-2. I'm afraid this is where we part ways though, I will finish this series out by purchasing XIII-3 at a cheap price that is preferably used so that SE doesn't see one more dime of my money for what they have done to my favorite and the best game series of all time.

Someday I hope I can get excited for a Final Fantasy game again :(

I'm not even gonna buy this when it's in the $2 bin...

When I see SE do this, annualization, I don't think they are trying to make the best game possible but I see a money grubbing company trying to milk extra cash from die hard fans.

I guess I better attempt to finish XIII-2. What a waste of $$$...I know you found it to be better than the first but I have a hard time getting into the game.

That's because it's utterly devoid of purpose or enjoyable gameplay. Do what I did and set the battles to easy then just plow through the terrible story line.

You're both missing the point of FFXIII-2. Forget the title and treat it as a new IP and suddenly everything gets much better.

Since the 1st Production Department is working on 'Final Fantasy X HD' as well, I guess we won't see that game for a long time. *sigh*

A month a go they were still "looking into lots of things" to paraphrase the status of FFXHD

I am ok with this, at least the trilogy as a whole can be completed with a great ending. I really enjoyed the XIII universe. I own XIII-2 but have not played it yet. I will play XIII-2 as we get closer to XIII-3 release.

For those of you that aren't happy with a XIII-3 at least it will now be over. I can't imagine SE changing dramatically for the next installment either. I guess we'll have to wait and see what changes they make in XV.

I dunno man, they seem to have a new milking philosophy, maybe it'll keep going into XIII-4

I'll buy it if Light is the lead character and I really want Fang back. Maybe it will be a expansion pack instead of XIII-3.

It's crazy, looking at my gaming library, I own every single game Square has released since the PS1 all the way up to PS2. Even games like Bushido Blade and Tobal but damn, they really missed the mark on the PS3. They lost a very loyal customer. Especially when they went multi-plat and gave us the shaft in regards to all the things they cut out of 13 to make the game fit on the Xbox.

Can't wait for the next Persona game.

I'm 100% satisfied with Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2. The world that the story revolves around is intriguing. I find myself enjoying it more than Final Fantasy VII. I'm going to buy XIII-3 because I want to see how this story ends.

As for the "milking" thing, look at it like this... if they release a quality game every 2 years, then the more the merrier... at least until they give us another X-2. That just ticked me off. =]
