Conquer A Different Island Next Year In Dead Island Riptide

If you enjoyed the undead slashfest that was Dead Island, you should be all in next year.

That's 'cuz next year, developer Techland will bring you Dead Island Riptide. The game was officially announced earlier this year but it didn't have a release date attached...it doesn't now, either, but at least we know it'll drop some time in 2013.

The new effort features a bigger and better presentation, including weather effects like flooding plus an overhauled game engine. Also, we won't be returning to the same tropical island overrun with zombies, but it will be on a different island in the same archipelago. Oh, and if you put a fair amount of time into the first game, you'll have a little edge in Riptide: You'll be able to import save info from the original title into the sequel. Not sure exactly what that'll get you, but at least it's a bonus.

Dead Island shipped over 3 million copies and was greeted with general critical acclaim. Lastly, don't forget that Techland is cranking away on a brand new IP dubbed "Project Horror."

Importing your character will allow you to continue to open up their skill tree.

So looking forward to this. Despite all the crazy issues and lame quests it is still the best zombie simulator of all time. Hopefully all that gets an upgrade this time around.

I like that term, "Zombie Simulator". I've never even thought of any game as a simulator other than GT5.

I think it applies here, people go "meh more zombies" but unlike all the other zombie blastfests out there DI really does feel like an event simulator more than a zombie blastfest.

sweet!
really wanted to enjoy the original but couldent because of the repetitive fetch quests and weapon deterioration.
remove both and this will be one of the funnest games of next year!
O, lets have some cool wacky weapons too.
sure a machete and guns are cool but lets add some wacky weapons from dead rising into it while were at it no?
whole point of the game is to have fun ripping zombies to shreds, so why not take it that extra mile?

i say fix the quests but the weapon damage kinda makes it realistic. think about it, if you yourself duct taped a buzz saw to a baseball bat, how long do you think it'll last??

so?
why does everything these days have to be realistic?
wheres the fun in that?
ok, if you want realistic than 99% of the weapons in the game would have to be removed!
duct taping a buzz saw to a baseball bat would not end well.....
as i said whole point of that game is to have fun ripping zombies to shreds!
cant do that if your worried about destroying your weapons.
its like changing GTA so every time you drive a car you have to pay to get it fixed, you cant get another car till its fixed.
would be annoying as hell, no?

lol, i wouldn't mind having to get gas in GTA. how much would it suck fleeing from the cops and your car goes empty. but i kinda see whatyou are saying. how about we just say they could drastically increase the durability of most weapons.
