For Xenosaga To Return, The Fans Must Speak...And Beg

It's one of the most esteemed and beloved role-playing franchises of the last generation. Want it to come back, die-hard followers?

There are plenty of PS2 classics that are making their way to the downloadable world, and the Xenosaga titles could be among the crowd. However, for that to happen, PlayStation Digital Platforms Community Manager Morgan Haro said the fans are going to have to speak up.

He replied to a fan asking Sony to bring Xenosaga back in the form of digital PS2 classics; here's what Haro said over at the PlayStation Blog. It's encouraging.

"Make your voice heard on the Namco Bandai forums to have the best possible chance to see this through. They’d need to sign off on it, but there are technical considerations as well (like will it work with the PS3 firmware to emulate this PS2 title)."

First there was Xenogears, which was a critical smash hit on the PS1, and then came the spiritual successor in the form of Xenosaga. There were several follow-up efforts, too, all featuring the franchise's really awesome heroine, KOS-MOS. Don't know her? Check her out in a simple Google image search...the fans love her.

I would hope they would give these classics more than a PS2 classic treatment and give them a complete HD upgrade facelift. They definitely deserve them, and it would be great to see trophies along with it. Having Xenosaga on my trophy list would be a great way to highlight my tastes a bit more ;)

Another reason it would be perfect for an HD collection is that the story of the games all flow into each other, so it's entirely compelling to start with the first and play through them all.

Well I suppose I'm off to the Namco Bandai forums...

If they can do it to Tekken Tag Tournament, I don't see why not with this game. I agree!

No thanks. I already have the three titles for PS2 and replaying the series again on my PS2, since backwards compatible consoles are gone. Now I understand why the original PS3 got the axe, they want us to rebuy the same games again. I love Xenosaga and highly recommend to everyone.

I had the same reaction at first, that they want us to rebuy the games on PSN. But for that to happen they have to PUT THE DAMN THINGS ON THERE!

I have a very difficult time believing it would be a problem to bring just about any PS2 game to PS3. You have the best minds available and crazy powerful hardware, just make it happen. I swear, homebrew nobodies do more amazing things than these folks have very difficult times achieving.

And HD update would be even better. Still even in SD I'd buy all three. I have the first one but I'm still bitter over the fact that PS2 B/C was stripped and I don't like to fire up the PS2 much.

Maybe if games like Xenosaga, Grandia III, Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud(s), and Suikoden 3-5 ever made it to the PSN people would have to look at the sales and go "Hey there's a market for JRPGs, who would have thought?"

I'd buy all three as PSN downloadable PS2 titles in SD and then drop whatever it takes on the HD remakes (assuming they were made) on BluRay too.

I played 2 of them, but I honestly didn't know they made a 3rd one until Highlander told me, so I still need to get the 3rd game of Xenosaga.

And I really loved the 2 games that I have played thus far.

Xenosaga 3 is an order of magnitude better than Xenosaga 2.

Can't say I share the same passion for this series. Here it the UK we only got part 2?!?!? It had a fancy boxset and an extra disc with an anime series(which could have been replaced by the first game...) but the fact that we never got part 1 made it completely useless. It probably sold poorly & that's why we got no third part. No sympathy there.

Then you have no idea what you're missing and shouldn't be so dismissive of something you don't know about.

Well it's a bit hard to welcome it when we didn't have it released properly in your country... I'm not saying it's a bad game series. But I think it needs to be noted how bad they screwed us over on this series.

They screwed you over terribly if you only got Episode 2. Missing out Episode 3 is bad enough, but Episode 2 was the least good of the three.

I wish they'd release a lot of games that never got outside Japan.

Ben, don't tease me like this. Xenosaga on PS3, for real? I have got( GOT!! ) to get the word out and get folks talking about this one.

While I'm at Namco's forum, I think I will make some noise about getting a partial localization of Idolmaster 2 for PS3 as ell. I don't think I could take that game if they fully localized it with a dub, since the game is primarily about the pop idols that the producer is guiding to stardom. You really need the original voices for it to work right. But, a sub'd version would be awesome - and if the number of English walkthrough guides for a thoroughly Japanese game are anything to go by, it'd be popular too.

Highlander has long since piqued my interest. If it gets the Classics HD treatment, you can be damn sure that I'll be on that like a fat kid on a cupcake. I care not for the details, all I care about is quality. Build it and they will come. And I shall be among the masses :)

BTW Ben, a Xenosaga image and you have T-Elos (the evil nemesis of KOS-MOS), fighting Shion and Jin? C'mon man, make with the pictures of the Blue haired combat android!

Well, nothing is going to happen fast if there isn't more than 9 replies at the forums. I did my part. Everyone else needs to take the 60 secs and do theirs ;)

You must be talking about T-Elos since KOS-MOS obviously and demonstrably *does* care.

Bring the series to the PS3 in HD, Namco-Bandai and I'll definitely pick it up. $40 - $50, whatever. Just give me.

Same to you, Sony! Bring the Dark Cloud series in HD with trophies to the PS3 and it'll be Day 1.

I'm not interested in PS2 Classics since I can easily pick them up in store for my PS2 but if they're in HD with trophies on one disc, I'll snatch them up. Same with Shadow Hearts.

I just wish they could complete Xenogear instead. They tried with Xenosaga to complete the story but changed it in the end since they didnt really understood how episode 1 through 4 of Xenogear (Xenogear on PSX is 5 iirc) should be done.

Xenosaga was still good but Xenogear was better imo. I just wished it wasnt dropped or that information was shared with the Xenosaga devs so it would fill in the gap . . .
