The Last Guardian Trademark Changed To "New Application"

Last month, it was briefly believed that the long-anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last Guardian, had been canceled.

But as various Sony representatives clarified, the game is actually still in development, although we remain concerned. In the most recent update, we learned that the team actually had to go back and redo parts of the game. That sounds a little ominous, in truth.

Now, we have what might be a new development, although you'll have to do some legal interpreting. According to a information obtained at Trademarkia, it seems Sony has filed a "New Application" trademark for the title in question. Here's the status update:

"...status on the THE LAST GUARDIAN trademark changed to NEW APPLICATION - RECORD INITIALIZED NOT ASSIGNED TO EXAMINER."

The trademark is also listed as "active," which is in contrast to what we saw that sparked the cancellation rumor. Thing is, the last trademark filing didn't appear to be active anymore, so perhaps this update for a "new application" is good news. We're just hoping we see more of the game this month at the Tokyo Game Show...cross your fingers.

P.S. Thanks, BikerSaint!

"Operating a real-time game for others over a global and local area computer networks"

Does that mean it has become an online game?

It's all pretty scary but thanks for the tip Bikersaint.

Online game? Sounds like a horrible idea to me. That game has single player experience written all over it.

Yeah I know nothing about trademark paperwork, that quote could be referring to anything. It just caught my eye.

Btw, forgot to reply to your email, but I wanted to tell you-

The reason you see stories that you probably tipped us about but don't see your name is just because either: A. I've already seen the story, or B. I have to link to a main source, which I kinda have to do.

If it's all you, you'll always get that little credit. Just wanted to explain. :)

Ben,
Hey, no problem as I already understood that, LOL.

Anyway, most of the time I do try to find the original source to send, but if the secondary site seems to have a lot more info, then I'll send that one instead(with the original source also included at the bottom too).
