Sony's Ridiculous 4K HDTV Can Be Pre-Ordered For $25,000
Like we said before...start saving your pennies.
Sony's incredible new 84-inch XBR-84X90 high-definition TV has super high definition, registering at 3840 x 2160 resolution, which is four full times the pixels of what we call "full HD" now (1080p). It also boasts 3D, a virtual 5.1 surround sound field and online connectivity via the Sony Entertainment Network.
So what's the retail price? Did you guess? Are you about right? According to a new CVG report, this wicked piece of technology can be pre-ordered now; it's scheduled to arrive in the US in November. It seems obvious to many that Sony will utilize the new PlayStation to help bring this ridiculous tech into the homes of more people but to start, the price tag is a tad...prohibitive: $25,000.
Oh come on, it's not that bad. I remember some time ago, wandering into a TV store and seeing one of the first high-definition TVs for $30,000. I remember thinking, "yeah, can't get much better than that." And you know, we all have to stop saying things like that.

Also, when Sony said the PS3 had a blu-ray drive, it wasn't even a sure thing that blu-ray would win the format war. Sony is always thinking ahead and trying to create incentives for the public to adopt newer technologies. This is a tad ridiculous right now, but there will be early adopters that will push for more 4k movies, and more TVs like it. When that happens, the prices will come down.

But just as the PS3 has been able to playback movies in glorious full HD since day one (and may I remind you that was before most had a full HD TV, and most movies were still only released on DVD), so will the PS4 be able to do the same for the next generation.
It really makes sense in the bigger scheme of things.
