Should All PlayStation Fans Want To Play Battle Royale?

I've recently and reluctantly maintained that I may not qualify as your quintessential hardcore game fan.

When you look at something like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, one obviously understands that it's designed with the fans in mind. You know, everyone who has lost countless hours to the PlayStation brand over the past sixteen or seventeen years. For many younger gamers, they grew up with the likes of Ratchet & Clank, Dante, Sly Cooper, Kratos, and Sweet Tooth. I also have plenty of fond memories with most of the characters on the battle roster for that game.

And yet, I admit I'm not all that interested. I've never been into fighting games and I certainly wasn't on board with Super Smash Bros. I have an even softer spot in my heart for the old-school Nintendo mascots and that wasn't enough to convince me. So maybe it's just because I'm not a "hardcore" fan of the industry (even though I'll be gaming forever) that such titles don't interest me. So the question is- If you're a confirmed PlayStation fan, you have to realize that PlayStation All-Stars is designed specifically with you in mind. Is that enough?

I've heard die-hard fans say they'll do just about anything that's even remotely related to their favorite stuff. Hardcore "Star Trek" fans will watch anything with that name in the title, even if they've heard it's awful. So I wonder if the same mentality works with gamers; in other words, if you really love so many of the characters in Battle Royale, will you even care how good the game is? I don't know, maybe not. It'll be interesting to see how it fares when it launches in November.

You're not alone. I have no interest either. Not with Mortal Kombat Komplete edition arriving today and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 getting close. If I'm going to buy a full price fighting game it has to be the scope and beauty and detail of TTT2. Battle Royale looks rated G at best. Too each their own though. Plus with the way they are relasing Complete and ultimate editions and arcade editions, I'm not buying anything like this day one just to be pissed off later when they inevitably give you all the dlc and make tweaks to it to balance it and no telling what else for half the cost.

I second this, I have low interest, although the inclusion of Raiden increased it a bit :P

And this is coming from someone who loved the original Smash Bros. and its sequel Melee (130 hours well spent!)

I've never been interested in Battle Royale or SSB. Its been interesting to see what characters they have chosen I thought new Dante was odd considering DMC release date is next year. If Battle Royale was like Dissidia it would be d1p.

Well if you're not a fan of Smash Bros I wouldn't expect you to be excited for Battle Royale. I loved smash bros (the original and the Wii version) more because it was a lot of fun than necessarily my connection to the characters.

Battle Royale is like the best of both worlds for me, in that the gameplay looks similar to smash bros (which is a good thing), and I have played alot more Playstation games than Nintentdo games. But if I wasn't a fan of the Smash Bros-style of fighting games, I wouldn't buy it just cause it has a bunch of characters I like

I'd buy it if they announce Snake as a playable character (especially if it was Old Snake).

They got Raiden, which is cool. But i want Snake :)

I'll get it just for the fact I'll get a free copy to play on the go! lol.

But I always loved SSB and I hope this can be a fresh new brawler to challenge my buddies.

Playing this won't stop me from Playing DOA5 Bikini Edition either :D

I'm probably not getting this. I somewhat admire it but I think the game's visuals look underwhelming, and just the general look and style. It's like it wants to look kiddish, you know? for kids, but yet it tries to be grown up with grown up mascots. And please no one tell me Heavy Rain characters are in this. That'd just be insulting. Anyway, I know I sound like a skeptical bummer. Because I am with this one ;)

I also think it'll just come up feeling like a weaker SSBM. But I dunno. I'm just not interested enough to really care.
Oh and the God of War level looks like crap. I think the PS2 HD God of Wars looked better =p

Since I'm not really into fighting games, I doubt I'll be buying this until I can get it later on in the bargain bin, but just for my collection purposes.

I am on board, but this is by no means something that will be hailed as a favorite. Also, I don't believe my enjoyment of this has anything to do with my love for Sony. Though I can't say it is the most fun I've had with a game, I definitely think it is fun no less - particularly being one that spent a good many hours battling friends in SSBB. From what I played of the beta, it is hard to say it measures up to SSB... but perhaps when it is finished...

It's not possible for me to care less. I'm even surprised people bother to talk about it, that's how uninteresting I find it to be.

But then again I probably don't qualify as a true Playstation fan either, with the PS3 being my first console. But why on earth would I want to play a "kid version" of, say, Cole jumping around in a world where he did not belong?
Meh - not for me.

Maybe if it appeared as more of a serious fighter to me, I'd consider it. I was hoping for something more in the vein of Tekken in terms of the gameplay style, but the ridiculous pace and overall style just doesn't sit well with me. Some of the characters ARE cool, but I hope that they take a different route with the gameplay of the next if they decide to offer a follow-up at some point.

Or Superbot could just work on a new exclusive fighter IP. Either way.

What I gather from the title is that PlayStation All Stars could itself become a franchise.

We might see:

A soccer game
A racing game
A platformer game
A mini-game.....game

It could be they aren't angling for the hardcore fans here, but rather casual gamers who have simply heard of all these mascots.

Any other genres they could tap?

i have been playing the beta for this game. i dont think i will be picking it up. i was never into super smash bros. the list of characters is impressive but i just dont care for fighting games.

I'm a Playstation fan, through and through, but this game doesn't really interest me...

And while I'm probably more attached to Sony mascots than Nintendo mascots (save for Link :), this just doesn't look as interesting as SSB...

Oh well, I'll wait and see....although, I am a little miffed that they used the new design for Dante instead of the original :/

SSB style play is best for Nintendo style and not as well suited for PlayStation style. Playstation is more suited for a more Tekken style. But the game I REALLY wanted was a Kingdom Hearts style epic action/turn based hybrid jrpg like Kingdom Hearts, but for Playstation...

I'm in the private beta and I have to say I'm uninterested in the complete game. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad game b/c it isn't at all. It's actually pretty fun and servers perform great. It's just not my style of game that I'd pay for..For those who are into this style of game then they'll love it.

I'll try it, but I am really sad they went the 2D direction. I really think they could have seperated themselves if they made it more like powerstones in that it is full 3D.

It's no surprise though, as it will get purchased purely on the fact it looks like smash bros, even if it isnt technically that similar in its mechanics.

All I hope is that a new ape escape comes out of this -_-

I'll probably give a try at some point but I agree, these sorts of games just don't interest me. They don't have what I love most about video games -- context for your actions. At the end of the day, I need a REASON to go start some s**t with Zeus in God of War 3. I need a REASON to slay dragons in Skyrim. I need a REASON to join up with terrorists in Midgar. And these crazy mash-up fighters just strip all of that context away. I love a lot of PlayStation icons but this game will never be as satisfying as the "real" titles they come from.

I'm just not that interested. I enjoy fighting games, but not nearly as much as other genres. If I routinely had 3 or more friends come over to play the game, I might be more interested. Alas, I'm not that much of a social gamer anymore.

I m not a fan of simplified fighting combat mechanics in those kinda games .I m not even interested even tho dante ( man was he great in mvc 3 ) is in this and that says a lot .

I don't care for fighting games. But my guess is most of you guys who don't care for it don't really have three other buddies you can get with on the regular and have fun with this game.

I'm a campaign player. I never play online. But I do love myself a local multiplayer game. I don't care what type of game it is, as long as it's fun as hell.

If I didn't have friends who are actually gonna play this with me in the same room, I probably wouldn't be much interested either.

The fact that such cool characters are playable is just a plus for me. At the end of the day though, I could care less what characters are in it as long as the game is fun.

Well honestly I wish it was 3d like powerstone, but nonetheless although I only buy playstation since 1998 I have friends who have had SSB games, and I enjoyed them. I always wished Sony would make their own version of either SSB or Powerstone and I got my wish(seriously would've prefered Powerstone though) and I will buy on 1 condition... They Better have Snake in this game. I would prefer MGS 1/2 snake, but since he was in SSBB. I'd take Big Boss, please just don't make it be old Snake.

On Topic- No all PS fans shouldn't want it, but they should atleast be interested in it enough to keep tabs on it regardless if they want it or not.

P.S- I would expect the uninterested comments coming from most of the members on this site because most of you seem like mainly rpg players lol. Most RPG players that I know dont like fighting games.
