Beyond Good & Evil 2 Dead, Possible Digital Resurrection?
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot gave a small hint as to the fate of Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a recent Guardian interview.
And it wasn't exactly what one might call encouraging.
Guillemot said there's a chance the game could return as a digital offering. He was asked if gamers would see a downloadable version of the long-awaited sequel, and his reply was as follows:
You never know. It could happen! It’s a fact that you don’t have to create a game that’s very long, you can take different risks with games."
The implication there is that BG&E2 is no longer in development, despite what Ubisoft has said in the past. It seems obvious at this point that, at the very least, the project has hit a stumbling block or two, and it doesn't appear possible for the immediate future. Plus, it sounds like if it does arrive, it'll be for the next generation as Guillemot was referring to the new era of gaming in this interview, reminding everyone his company intends to make fewer "bigger games."
Beyond Good & Evil 2 might not be considered "big," and it could wind up in the digital realm. The fans probably wouldn't be too distressed at that; they just want it to show up somehow. For the record, we've heard next to nothing about this sequel since it was teased at a Ubidays event over four years ago. Yep, 2008. A while ago.

I jest, I jest. Ubisoft Montpellier is largely unaffected by the goings on with the rest of the corporation. They still aren't always free to make the games that they want, resulting in these issues with BG&E2, but Michel Ancel is pretty awesome with what he has a hand in.

Keep up the good work Ubisoft! You're super.
What game do we need to buy next, after BG&E:HD and Rayman Origins, to "prove" that we want this oncoming travesty?

come on, BG&E has always been about ambition and scale you cant make this as a download only game!
seeing the leaked demo a few months ago got me so excited for this it looked oh so freaking cool!
exactly why i have to dip my hat to PG and bayonetta 2.
they know it wont sell well on the wii u, but there doing it anyway because its either that or nothing!
so why cant ubisoft do the same?
instead of saying no we wont do it because were worried it wont sell, why cant they just do it as a gift to the fans who have been screaming at the top of their lungs for years!?
surely a single title that does not sell well is not going to cause one of the industries largest publishers to pack up its doors!
sometimes you have to take a leap of faith, and you never know you might be surprised by the results.........

Corporations have the money, but they only want more. They don't want to give the fans what both they and the creators want. Honestly...

First you ruin Prince of Persia with 'Warrior Within' (even Jordan Mechner, the original creator, publicly called the game horrible).
Then you whore out Assassin's Creed so much with annual releases that Patrice Desilets, the original creator, quits the company.
Now you lock up Michel Ancel's sequel to the cult classic 'Beyond Good & Evil' with constant delays and "promises" of next-generation release.
What the hell?!
