Cage: If Ellen Page Said No, I Would've Been In Deep Sh**

Quantic Dream's anticipated new project is Beyond: Two Souls, which features accomplished film actress Ellen Page in the lead role.

Surprisingly enough, Quantic boss David Cage wrote the lengthy script specifically with Page in mind; as he told CVG, "I only had one name on my list and it was Ellen Page." The bottom line was that the main character needed to be played by her, or it might be back to the drawing board. Said Cage:

"If she had said no I would have been in deep shit. For me it was really obvious it could only be her. We contacted her agent, we sent her a package with the script of our new game, a copy of Heavy Rain and a list of reviews for Heavy Rain, and a nice letter saying 'please, please, please, please, please'. And the agent came back really quickly and said Ellen read the script, and that she loved it and she would be happy to be part of it."

You've seen Page in movies like "Juno" and "Inception," and that helped prove to Cage that she was capable of taking creative risks. She has admitted in the past that she's not really into videogames and wasn't sure if this is the type of role she'd like, but evidently, that script got her. Unsurprisingly, Cage said she was initially skeptical because she just thought games were "guns, guns, guns."

And sadly, that is the biggest stereotype in gaming today. Even more sadly, it fits quite often.

The irony is of course that the movie Inception is 99.995% action and gunfights. :D

I would say that movie was a lot less action and guns and a lot more "mind f***ing".

It's most definitely an action movie, and a darn good one too. Loved the story.
But I think mr Cage has a bigger problem with action than little miss Page here.

Inception? Where they entered the victims sub-consciousness? Where they at one level had this continuous car chase, the other that big fight inside the hospital where they cut the elevator cables, and the third level that shootout in and around that castle in the snowy mountain - all going on simultaneously?

Come on guys. Even though it had a great story doesn't mean it can't be an action movie! :D

Am I the only one who notices that David Cage always has a fatalistic view of his projects before they're released? Also, I like the movies I've seen with Ellen Page, but I wouldn't say she stands out from any of her peers. David Cage is just being a drama queen again.

Well, if she's talking about guns, guns, guns, then she must be talking about the xbox360, where all of there exclusives 1st party games are 1st person and 3rd person shooters.

Except for their arcade games. "What?? We get Call of Duty dlc exclusive for the 1st month? No way!! Get out." Whatever.

Well maybe games like this will keep changing minds about guns guns guns.

Cage is a smart guy but he sure paints himself into corners. I like Ellen Page and think she will pull this off fantastically but what a strange choice of actress to get obsessed with.

Looking forward to this game. David Cage does like to run his mouth though. Hopefully we see or hear more info out of TGS about this one.
