Cage: If Ellen Page Said No, I Would've Been In Deep Sh**
Quantic Dream's anticipated new project is Beyond: Two Souls, which features accomplished film actress Ellen Page in the lead role.
Surprisingly enough, Quantic boss David Cage wrote the lengthy script specifically with Page in mind; as he told CVG, "I only had one name on my list and it was Ellen Page." The bottom line was that the main character needed to be played by her, or it might be back to the drawing board. Said Cage:
"If she had said no I would have been in deep shit. For me it was really obvious it could only be her. We contacted her agent, we sent her a package with the script of our new game, a copy of Heavy Rain and a list of reviews for Heavy Rain, and a nice letter saying 'please, please, please, please, please'. And the agent came back really quickly and said Ellen read the script, and that she loved it and she would be happy to be part of it."
You've seen Page in movies like "Juno" and "Inception," and that helped prove to Cage that she was capable of taking creative risks. She has admitted in the past that she's not really into videogames and wasn't sure if this is the type of role she'd like, but evidently, that script got her. Unsurprisingly, Cage said she was initially skeptical because she just thought games were "guns, guns, guns."
And sadly, that is the biggest stereotype in gaming today. Even more sadly, it fits quite often.
