Dead Island Riptide Trailer: We Die, But We're Taking 'Em With Us

You may recall that incredibly impressive CGI trailer that essentially put Techland's Dead Island on the map.

Well, it worked so well from a marketing standpoint that publisher Deep Silver has decided on the same approach for the upcoming sequel, Dead Island Riptide. It's emotional and even a touch sentimental, just like that first CGI presentation for the original title.

An idyllic setting and happy position, transformed in an instant to a dire, even hopeless situation. The couple in this video are penned in, the zombies have them surrounded, and there's no way out. But they've got gasoline tanks and a lighter...if they have to die, they're gonna take as many brain-eaters as they can with 'em. Brave and sweet, in a way. And I must be at least halfway twisted because at first, I thought she mouthed the words "Light the fuse," not "I love you."

It could've been either, though, right?

Awesome. I didn't see any fuse but it looked like she said that because a mouth wouldn't normally linger partly open on the word "you".

Either way, KABOOM!!!!

There was no fuse. All the gas was turned on (you can see the vapors)so all it needed was the lighter to spark.

I was more touched by the cinematic for the first game. Probably because I have two daughters and I can imagine that dad's desperation to keep his family safe.... only to be attacked by his own daughter. Great clip.

I think the animators meant for her to whisper "I love you" but it was obviously a little off.

Let's hope this time around they put more effort into the actual game instead of the CG trailer.

Yeah touching trailer & all that, now back it up with a good game. That would be wonderful.

The first one was more emotional for me. But I think it was purely because of the music. That piano piece just tugged at my heart strings.

This one was up there though, and while the song isn't going to be remembered by me, I definitely hope they continue this trend with these games. I love the emotional trailers these guys cook up.

That's a damned good bonding moment!

It's just a shame that those DI trailers aren't actually part of the game.

Well, at least the 1st game's trailer wasn't so I'm expecting the same about this trailer too.

Yeah, the most you got was if you looked around you could find the couple from the trailer dead in a room together.

I liked dead island a lot but it would have been nice for it to have more emotional weight in it.
