Tokyo Game Show Sets New Records

In terms of sheer attendance numbers, the Tokyo Game Show is the biggest industry event in the world.

And this year, TGS has once again broken its own record for visitors: According to the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), TGS 2012 brought in 223,753 interested fans, a small rise of 1,085 when compared to last year.

There were 209 companies exhibiting from 19 different countries at the show, and there was a marked focus on the explosion of mobile and social gaming. The Asian territories had quite a few representatives as well; CESA says speakers from China, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and of course, Japan, were on hand to discuss the future of the video game industry. Next year, TGS will take place between September 19 and 22 at Makuhari Minesse. If you'd like to go, just be prepared to see a lot of people milling about.

This is all despite the somewhat lackluster presentations by the heavy hitters in the industry, with the possible exception of Nintendo and their new Wii U. Besides the new PS3 models, Sony didn't have much to say. ...will the PS4 be the focal point next year?

I understand that Sony needs to get the Vita some attention, but 1 whole hour of it?! You'd think after gamescom they would be a bit modest on the Vita, but no way was that the case.

I wanted to see more PS3 titles like Last Guardian, FFvsXIII, GT6, and maybe some new footage of Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls.

Daus, I think GT6 is a PS4 game, you won't see it until PS4 is officially confirmed and outed. I'm still amazed at the lack of concrete information about the PS4 specification.

Honestly, I think Sony are using the Vita to their advantage. First of all they need to generate sales on it, and secondly by talking about Vita (which is legitimately a new platform to talk about) they avoid PS4 questions.

Still no concrete PS4 news....amazing. We knew that PS3 would be based on the CellBE design for years before the actual hardware existed.

I agree, I was about to write the same. It's very strange. I think it's awfully quiet from both camps. Confusing, really. It must be to maintain sales on current platform?

I think it's exactly that Beamboom, definitely to protect current sales. Though I wonder if Sony has got annoyed with all the leaks they have suffered in the past and really clamped down on the information this time as a consequence.

So I guess I have to be the only one glad that I haven't heard any concrete PS4 info.

TOO MANY FREAKING SECRETS get completely revealed years/months before they get an official reveal. For once...when I watch an E3 press conference or even see a liveblog I WANT TO JUMP OUT OF MY CHAIR from excitement...instead of just sit there sipping my tea while playing a game of BINGO to see which one becomes true.

No one was hyped for the awesome Vita games? There was Y's, Soul Sacrifice, The phantom star game (can't remember the game) and people say Sony had nothing to show? I disagree, there was some cool stuff there. After finishing MGS4 last night, i can safely say i might be buying revengeance because Raiden was a beast. Kind of glad how it all ended and i thought snake actually killed himself. I yelled at my TV SNAAAAAAAAAKEEEEE!!!!

I think the ps4 is going to be announced soon because around the time the ps2 had stuff like GOW2 and a few other epic games, the ps3 was announced. So im expecting it very soon, and after the 720's failed chip impeding progress till 2014, i think Nintendo and Sony have the upper hand here.

If any fanboys disagree go google it. I read that there was some kind of issue with the 720 and it will take 2 years to fix it.

There was major problem with the processors that could set 720 back by 6 months or so. Most coming off the line simply weren't viable. I think we'll see another high fail rate on the Xbox side.
