How Does One Reinvent An Icon? Let The New Lara Explain

The highly anticipated Tomb Raider reboot is slated to wow us all in March, and we're all interested to see how this effort fares when it arrives.

One of the most important aspects of this reimagining of the iconic franchise is the rebirth of its protagonist, the legendary Lara Croft. As the game is a prequel, the storyline largely deals with how Lara...well, became Lara. Many trials and tribulations.

And in a great behind-the-scenes feature, Camilla Luddington - the new Lara - talks about how she tackles the role. Luddington appears to be a perfect person as her voice fits Lara's character nicely, and it's always cool to see motion-capture technology in action. They also talk a lot about the story in general, and how important it is to get it just right. Tomb Raider fans have felt a little shortchanged this generation and they're really counting on this reboot to be downright glorious.

Well, it's definitely promising, at the very least.

I just hope it doesn't focus on a ton of pain in the ass acrobatics and puzzles, if any series needed to add more action and narrative it was Tomb Raider where the combat was always more of an afterthought.

I'm sure she does a great job, though I like a little more woman in my Lara voices. I guess they are really playing up the youth angle.

Hate to say it but I just gave you a thumbs down for the first time.

Tomb Raider is one of my favorite gaming series. The original actually has a special place in my heart. Tomb Raider IS all about exploration and difficult puzzles which involve jumping and observing your surroundings.

If you want more action and gimped exploration than I suggest sticking with Uncharted. Then again it has already been shown that this newest TR will continue the trend of "dumb down" gaming to appease the masses.

I don't think the exploration has to be gimped to go stronger on control-effectiveness and combat. And I think an actual story would strengthen the overall experience so it isn't as aimless. But I respect your right to be wrong.

I too would like a great story. I didn't disagree with you on that aspect. But I still don't understand your problem with "pain in the ass acrobatics and puzzles". I've yet to run into this issue in a Tomb Raider game. Sure there are moments where I'm lost as to what to do but eventually I succeed and the answer is obvious. A certain level of difficulty increases the reward factor.

What I mean is it's just one puzzle after another, I like how Uncharted spaced them out. And for the acrobatics I mean those spots where the controls just go DERP and maybe your tether doesn't fire on time and weeeee down you go ten stories into the water and now you have to spend 15 minutes climbing again for the sixth time.

Fair enough, I don't have a problem with spacing gameplay portions of a game. I do however find fault with TR dumbing down the puzzles to cater to the Uncharted crowd. Look, I love the Uncharted series but it's not known for its puzzles nor does it need to be. TR has always been about complex/interesting/lengthy puzzles.

As far as controls, I played the first 4 TR games on PC first so maybe I'm just used to the controls being a little iffy.

First off I have to say, I am really lookin forward to this game. I have always like Tomb Raider and am excited for this reboot. Camilla seems to be a great fit for this role.

Second, if you want to see MORE of Camilla, check out the last couple seasons of Showtime's Californication, mostly last season but I beleive she is in the season before as well.

She's kind of tiny isn't she. I wasn't expecting some big hulking bull dike, but I thought a larger woman would've been chosen for the part. She appears to have done a very good job though.

I'm looking forward to this game's reboot. Tomb Raider was one of my favorite franchises for psone. I hated to see it's steady decline over the years and I hope the reboot breathes new life into it.

I think on the bull dike the motion trackers would have been too far apart and Lara wouldn't be moving right.
