RE6 Ships 4.5 Million Worldwide, Franchise Sales Top 50 Million

Fan rage and conflicting review scores aside, Resident Evil 6 is still a popular game. It's Resident Evil, after all.

Capcom has announced that the latest entry in the legendary series has shipped over 4.5 million copies worldwide. That's pretty impressive considering the anticipated game just launched a couple days ago.

The publisher claims it's the largest initial shipment in their history, although many will be quick to point out the obvious: Shipped numbers aren't sales numbers. The latter will be the most interesting statistic as we move forward; are too many gamers put off by the controversy? Are they saving their hard-earned cash for titles they're convinced will be better? Most everyone has to prioritize and some might be going, "Gee, do I spend my $60 on RE6 or wait until next week and get Dishonored?"

Capcom also revealed that total sales of all Resident Evil entries to date have topped the 50 million sales plateau (this one is sales, not shipments). The original game launched back in 1996 and became quite the phenomenon...I remember it well.

Wonderful, Capcom will figure the franchise is headed in the right direction. The Final Fantasy parallels just keep cropping up.

Be cool like World, get Dishonored.

When it stalls at 6 mil and doesn't reach the Call of Duty numbers they're hoping for I want them to acknowledge this and with future entries stop chasing after groups of people that couldn't care less about the franchise.

I am enjoying this game a lot. I said this on the other thread...Leon's campign is great! What a freaking thrill ride! I haven't had this much fun with a game in years. I got a huge adreniline rush from the INTENSE encounters the campign throws at you. It felt like I just got off a wicked a$$ roller coaster or something.

SPOILER ALERT!

Hehe. Save your ammo for chapter 5 in Leon's campign. You are going to need it. Great stuff and surprisingly long too!

This game is a blast online with friends! Absolute coop bliss!

That's just my take on the game. I am enjoying it way more than RE5 so that's a plus. In no way is this game a complete fail! 3's and 4's from so called professional reviewers?? Come on the man. The production values are sky high and there are flashes of greatness to be found in this game. I love it!!

RE 5 was the same, very tense, but that's no substitute for survival/horror for long time fans.

Co-op with friends makes everything more fun really.

Well I never really felt much tension in RE5. I got more of survival horror vibe in Leon's campign than I ever did in in the entire RE5 game. I don't know...I kind felt like I was playing RE4 which is a game I love. Maybe playing as Leon again is influencing me? It's possible I suppose. All that matters is I had a blast with Leon's campign! I instantly turned around to replay it because I loved it. I don't do that very often...so let's just say I was very impressed with Leon's campign. This game has great replay value too. I can see that just based on Leon's campign alone.

I am a long time Resident Evil fan. RE2 was my first PS1 game and I have played all of them. I even bought a GameCube so I could play the RE games Nintendo snagged from Capcom last gen. RE5 is my least favorite in the series. I like RE6 way more than I did RE5 so this long time fan Resident Evil fan walks away happy! I am big time online gamer too so I will definitely get my money's worth.

Yes co-op with friends is very fun :),

I've only played the demo but I could see how RE6 brought back some of the classic feel inside the missions.

Leon makes everything better, one of my favorite characters. I wish they would have used him more in the latest live action movie.

I am still up in the air about buying this. After playing the demo the game will probably be a used game buy for me.

Frankly, I'm about to play Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on my PS3. Last time I played it was back on my PSone in 2004. :')
