One Of History's Best Finally Comes To The PSN In Europe

I can just hear a horde of European gamers now: "Well, it's about damn time!"

The side-scrolling classic with role-playing elements, the memorable Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, is finally coming in digital form to Europe. Konami has revealed that it'll hit the Euro PSN on October 10 and have a price tag of £9.99.

The game features Alucard, who enters a large castle full of enemies, hazards, and just fantastic gameplay mixed with a level-up system and a big ol' inventory. It has a special place in my heart as one of my top 5 favorite games of all time, which is why I say everyone should play it, even if it has to be in digital form. By the way, for all those in the US who missed out, it has been available on our Network for a few years now. So no more excuses, damnit.

By the way, a free cookie to anybody who can tell me the name of the enemy that drops the ridiculously overpowered Crissaegrim. And be a man...don't Google it and pretend like you know. It isn't even that hard of a question, really...it might be harder to tell me who drops the legendary Ring of Varda (and HOW you get that to happen).

The ring of varda... was that what you got from jumping up and down underneath the librarian? It's been a while. Maybe a Halloween playthrough is in order.

I like to keep this on my PSP in case I have time and a craving, I can't believe it took this long for Europe to get it.

I enjoyed Lord of Shadows but I really wish the series tried to get back in line with what Symphony of the Night brought to the table. This and Simon's Quest are my favorites.

I thought the DS sidescrollers were excellent as well. Can't for the life of me understand why Konami stopped making them. REALLY hope they get back to it, perhaps as download-only titles even.

Ah, see I don't have a DS but they were probably good as well.

If you're itching for a fix, definitely worth tracking down. You can find them, and a DS, for a few bucks these days.

I can't remember the name of the floating heads that drop the Crissaegrim! GRAH!!

But the Ring of Varda is dropped by one of the giant skeletons only if you have a cleared save file. :)

This is driving me CRAZY. I remember so well going back and forth, reloading the screen over and over until they dropped the sword. Took a good 20 minutes if memory serves, but MAN was it worth it...

Yup, it was indeed the floating heads...funny-sounding name, too... ;)

And the name of the golden skeleton that drops the Ring of Varda is Paranthropus. There are two room s with five total in the second (upside-down) castle, but there is ONE in the first castle, which means that with a clear-game save file, you can get that crazy Ring really early...just might take a while.

Yep, Schmoos. And the Lion in the inverted library drops the Fist of Tulkas, which is an absolutely crazy overpowered weapon you can equip in the shield slot.

GAH this is gonna drive me nuts. That sword was the BEST. I won't cheat, I'll see if someone else can remember :)

Also, yeah, uh, if SOTN isn't the best game ever, it's top 5 hands down. An absolute classic. I play through front to back every one or two years still. Might just take it for another spin this halloween season, as I did way back in the fall of 1997 when I received the game for my 17th birthday...

The crissaegrim? I don't remember how the monster was called, But It was this flying thing in the Inverted library... I remember that It took forever to get It and once I got It, I regretted It... The game just becomes too easy with that sword.

Oh and the ring of varda? That one I actually remember better, You have to beat the game first (I remember cause I had to look it up back in the day, I'd been trying to get one without doing that for ages) and then those big skeletons with the (also) big bone will drop them...

Did I win the cookie?

It's that time of the year again when I get this game and play it. It never loses its charm. Such an incredibly perfect game. Insanely addictive even after the 100th playthrough.

Certainly a game that should be played by anyone that considers themselves a gamer.

Ben will brag about his map completion, don't let it get to you.

MAN, I can't even begin to tell you how true that statement is, I just don't know why. Maybe it's due to the time of year when I first played SotN. Amazing memories I tell ya! Believe it or not this game was the game that got me through the hardest times of my life. Thanks Konami!

Now let's get an HD remake ;)

Honestly, unless you're a hardcore fan you can skip plenty of them. Do you like side-scrollers? Start with Symphony of the Night, a true classic. Modern/3D more your thing? Lords of Shadow was a very nice entry from a couple years back.

I would ALSO like to add that I filled my inventory; i.e., got every last weapon or item in the game, including the rarest of drops. If you thought getting the Schmoo to drop the Crissaegrim was hard, try getting that black panther to drop the Masamune. It's nowhere near as great as the Crissaegrim and yet, that freakin' panther just refused to drop it...took like an hour.

Was the Masamune the sword that lvls up per kill or blood soaked or Something like that? Either way it took hours for the drop even with those rings that increase drop rates. Two stacked and the Alucart set still took a long ass time...the memories lol. I'll gladly due it again in a few more weeks XD.

I've never had the pleasure of playing SOTN.

I'm ecstatic that it's finally heading to our store! Especially after hearing so much about it.

All we need now is Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross now...
