Sony Unveils New-Look PlayStation Store

Many PlayStation fans have been begging for a Store overhaul, and the recent rumors indicated a possible realization of those wishes.

Now, we know for sure it's coming: The new PlayStation Store has been officially revealed, and it'll debut in Europe on October 17, while US gamers will see it the following week on October 23. Sony calls this upgrade a "step change" and provides us with a fresh tile-based interface that scrolls sideways and a better search feature. The latter is definitely appreciated.

When you head to the Store after the update takes place, you'll see that the Store is set up by platform, so PS3 and Vita content will be separate (good idea). There are also more filter options, so you can sort by price, genre, or even accessory. Searching will be easier than before as the old keyboard is gone; now we'll search via "scroll-able letters" and Sony says they want users to find exactly what they're looking for in three letters or less. Lastly, the recommendation and basket system has received an overhaul, as gamers can add as much as they like to the basket and leave it there for as long as they like. Oh, and fancy stuff like trailers and screenshots streamed in HD for titles you're considering.

This new-look Store is all thanks to feedback from focus groups and one-to-one research, which sorta means Sony has been listening all this time. Sounds pretty solid, yes?

Reminds me of the Xbox store. Plus side is that we get no ads like the Xbox. So many of them on there considering you pay for online >:(. Lost track sorry, can't wait till two weeks from now.

Yes, finally!!!

It actually looks beautiful, with a bit of that minimalistic "metro" look which admittedly, I do like :)

I actually have no problem with the current store.

So while this looks nice, I'm withholding judgement until I try it...

I hope they lose the transparency that makes the current store difficult to read depending upon the background.

Looks hot. I just hope EVERY game (old and new) will include, at minimum, screenshots of gameplay.

I like how some of the games(like the mini's) on the store now has a "preview button", so I'm hoping Sony also extends that to every game title too.

They need to add a function that allows the user to orgnaize their download list.

I have over 800 titles to scroll through to find things sometimes. Searching by title, and grouping content that was downloaded over a period of time, like Pain's content, would be nice.

A sign of things to come? Updating the XMB to something similar, or just previewing the UI for the PS4? Looks kinda sexy from what I see, much better than the old design, not that there was anything wrong with that; it was just kinda... bland from memory (It's been four years since I checked the Store, so memory may fail me).

The store has improved quite a bit since four years ago, but it still has its quirks. A new design is very welcome IMO.

Looks a little like the Xbox Marketplace when I first saw it. I like the minimalism look anyway so don't really complain about it. Can't wait!

I would like every game on the Vita store to state its download size. Space has a value along with the actual price. I might buy something if its 250mb but may not if its 1gb.

Looks great!

If it weren't missing cross game chat, it would be heads and shoulders above XBL, especially since you have to pay for XBL.

Looks good, I just like the archaic looking PS store for sentimental reasons.
