Sony Unveils New-Look PlayStation Store
Many PlayStation fans have been begging for a Store overhaul, and the recent rumors indicated a possible realization of those wishes.
Now, we know for sure it's coming: The new PlayStation Store has been officially revealed, and it'll debut in Europe on October 17, while US gamers will see it the following week on October 23. Sony calls this upgrade a "step change" and provides us with a fresh tile-based interface that scrolls sideways and a better search feature. The latter is definitely appreciated.
When you head to the Store after the update takes place, you'll see that the Store is set up by platform, so PS3 and Vita content will be separate (good idea). There are also more filter options, so you can sort by price, genre, or even accessory. Searching will be easier than before as the old keyboard is gone; now we'll search via "scroll-able letters" and Sony says they want users to find exactly what they're looking for in three letters or less. Lastly, the recommendation and basket system has received an overhaul, as gamers can add as much as they like to the basket and leave it there for as long as they like. Oh, and fancy stuff like trailers and screenshots streamed in HD for titles you're considering.
This new-look Store is all thanks to feedback from focus groups and one-to-one research, which sorta means Sony has been listening all this time. Sounds pretty solid, yes?
