How's About A Move Controller That Heats Up And Cools Down?

Just in case you didn't know, filing a patent doesn't automatically mean we'll see a product related to that patent.

It just means it's possible...and that in and of itself is pretty freakin' cool.

Sony appears to be trying to make the PlayStation Move controller a lot more dynamic. According to a patent found by Kotaku, the Move wand may be looking to change temperature in your hand; i.e., get hotter and colder depending on the game situation. Yes, really.

The idea is that the controller will heat up and cool down based on how it is used, so if a gun is being fired rapidly for an extended period of time, the Move heats up. And if you go too far, the gun might not work due to overheating. Furthermore, it's feasible that when the controller heats up, the color exhibited in the ball at the top of the device may change as well. They might even use it for when you're searching for something, like the hot/cold game...close to a treasure chest? Hot! Moving in the wrong direction? Cold. And the idea of a biometric sensor that knows when you're hands are sweaty and cools down the controller is just WOW.

Yeah, it sounds like there are some potential safety perils involved, but we still wanna see it.

I can see this cool idea with sneaking games other etc., like getting close to an enemy the Move gets hot, being far away the Move get's colder and in between just neutral. Really good idea if they had cool ventilation in the DS3 controllers. I know some of the 3rd party's have it but I don't have trust in those.

I really hope this does not come into effect in the future... It's sounds beyond distracting. I still thing a controller should be designed so they player doesn't even notice it, that is why I like a standard PS joypad, it is perfectly formed for my hands and I get so immersed into the game that I don't have to worry about looking down at my controller. That is why i am still against even the Wii nunchucks, it just got in the way of being able to focus what was happening in the game as I always had to focus on my action with the control.

It sounds like another gimmick for a gimmick imo.

But it's only a patent so it might never happen.

They need to concentrate on heating up the cooled down game productions for Move.

I think it sounds awesome! What a great idea. I think with smart implementation it could be as common and useful as controller rumble -- A subtle but effective layer of immersion.

Neat idea except for one major design flaw..if you use it like a gun, anyone still using the move is probably using the Sharpshooter attachment for shooters, your not going to feel this thing heat up in the attachment..so kind of makes it pointless..

I personally still enjoy the move but I think Sony needs to invest in better titles to move the existing Moves on the shelf as opposed to try and make more things that aren't going to sell....

This will be cool if developers can actually do something with it. Also sony, wtf? Focus on putting games on the move or find a way to make it fully backwards compatible with all games.

stupid silly ideas like this!
next they will come out with a remote warmer so when you go to change channels the remotes not cold and hurts your poor hands.

That idea just doesn't sound worth it.
I'd almost definitely never buy it.
I enjoyed the Move while it lasted but it was a gimmick like Kinect that just couldn't keep real gamers interested for long...though I blame lack of support more than anything else.
