DreamWorks Casts Aaron Paul As Lead In Need For Speed Movie

That "Need for Speed" movie appears to be going forward.

The upcoming DreamWorks action film based on the iconic video game franchise has been casting and according to CNBC, the lead role has been given to "Breaking Bad" star and Emmy winner Aaron Paul.

DreamWorks President of Production, Holly Bario, made the announcement today, and we also know that Scott Waugh ("Act of Valor") is in the director's chair, and there's a current theatrical release date of February 7, 2014. Said Bario:

"We are huge fans of Aaron's and his stellar work on 'Breaking Bad.' We couldn't be more excited to have him headline our cast for 'Need for Speed.'"

EA Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund had this to say about Paul:

"Need for Speed is one of the most action-packed entertainment experiences you can find. The newest game, 'Need for Speed Most Wanted' and the upcoming film take the action to all new heights. Like the game series itself, the cast for the movie needs to be edgy and cool. Aaron Paul is a rising star -- a great choice for the film lead."

Paul was also seen in "Smashed," "The Last House on the Left," "Mission: Impossible III" and HBO's "Big Love." We're still not sure what a NFS film will be like, but we're hoping for a better version of "The Fast and the Furious." Heck, we're actually surprised no one pursued Vin Diesel.

I like Aaron Paul. He's a very talented actor. I don't, however, have high hopes for this movie. I've been hurt too many times before. A better version of The Fast and the Furious would be nice, but I'm afraid it will just end up appearing derivative. Even if it isn't, I'm sure the uninitiated to the franchise would assume it anyway.

Well it's got to be somewhat different than the Fast and the Furious/Fast & Furious.
