New-Look Store Suffers Launch-Day Problems In Europe

These things don't always go as smoothly as they should.

Reports are coming in from all over the Internet that the launch of the newly revamped PlayStation Store has caused some crashing issues in Europe. There have been other problems reported as well, such as the Store not recognizing Plus members and the wallet failing to work properly.

And according to Eurogamer, Sony has reverted back to the old Store, apparently so they can work out the kinks. As revealed yesterday, the drastically upgraded Store features a slicker, easier-to-use format, and is scheduled to be available in the US next week (Tuesday, October 23). Hopefully, that's still on track to happen and the launch will go smoother 'round these parts.

Of course, this will only be more cannon fodder for the current anti-PlayStation trend that has once again started to permeate the Internet. But I suppose that can't be helped.

To be honest, as nice as it was I really didn't care. The biggest thing the store needs is management with the download list. Or a wishlist feature. I doesn't bring anything "new" to the table at all. Looking forward to the day you can easily view purchased full games, what's installed on the harddrive, what isn't, etc.

Even with the glitches fixed and rolled out again, it's all style and no substance. Disappointing

I saw a video from the Playstation Blog about the new interface. At the end he mentioned our suggestions about the download list, but he made it sound like they are still working on it for a future update. :(

Sony might as well work on a bit longer to improve and release it along with PS4.

Holy c**p, it better not take 30+ seconds to open the store in the future, and I thought the old one was slow...

Yeah, I agree with most of you here. The PS Store we have now is just fine. I don't mind if it doesn't make it this gen, or if it's going to be delayed. Unless, it does feature an organized way to look through our download history or something, there's almost no point to it.

And also give us 2 delete buttons

One "delete" for the transaction history, so I can delete all of the old demos, & game videos.
Hell, I've got almost a hundred games on my hard-drive, but.. well in excess of 650 demos & game trailers/videos that are now unwanted.
I wound up giving up trying to sort between my wanted games & all the rest of that wasteful chafe & clutter.

And I want the 2nd "delete" for the trophy list, as I have tons of disc-based games I've bought for collection purposes & wound up sampling, just to find out that I still didn't like them.
Or for the demo's of other games I wound up not liking either, that(surprisingly enough), also spit out a trophy or two.

Wow, I didn't know there were demos that gave out trophies. I know that with some games when you try the demo you actually download the whole game. Then if you decide to buy the game all you really download is a small file that unlocks the rest of it. Are those the demos you can get trophies on?

Jed,
it seems like it's been ages since I've gotten a demo trophy, and maybe one was even one of the Mini's, but I don't really remember which ones.

The thing I do recall was that with each of those demo's, the developer had said to save their demo because whatever you did there would carry over to the full game disc version, such as designing your character, upgrades, loot/money, XP, skins/costumes, etc.

So now that I think about it, that's probably why those demo's even had any trophies at all.

I actually was quite mad when I got them because I was far enough into the demo that I knew I wasn't going to buy the full game due to lack of interest, but I had just kept playing it to the demo's end.

I think I have about 1 trophy each from 5 demos's, & one other had given me 2 of them which I can't delete off my trophy list.

And since I'm a gaming collector, I also sample every game that I wouldn't normally buy to play, (bought only to fill in collections), just on the off-chance I'll be mildly surprised & like it.
So I also have a ton of those game's unwanted trophies too.

So if anyone were to look at my trophy list, it looks like I'm just another one of those lil' 5 year old, smacked-a$$, Ritalin pill-popping, rage-quitters.

Oh BTW, HB to ya! My BD is coming up in another 18 days, but mine's gonna be the big "six-zero"(but I've been feeling a bit over ninety'ish lately

So bring on the GERITOL, homies!!!!!!

You can earn trophies by playing the 1 hour game trials.

Thanks,
I never play any of the 1 HR trials, so I wasn't aware that they give trophies too.

Thanks Biker, I'm only going to be 27, but I'll do Geritol shots with ya! ;)

I played a demo for a somewhat recent RPG where you basically created your character and played for about an hour or so before being cut off, and I remember it saying something about the save carrying over to the full game if you did buy it. But I don't remember what it was, or recieving any trophies from it.

Crap, more ammo for the haters. AND it was the one gaming related release I was looking forward to on my birthday. I gues I'll have to wait for it, like Assassin's Creed III, AC: Liberation, and Need for Speed. WHY DO THEY ALWAYS MESS UP MY BIRTHDAY!!!

To be honest, I found the store really annoying to navigate. When it came to looking at latest DLC, they weren't grouped by game, they were all flung together. So all the Tales of DLC, was there unorganized with everything else... I really loved the new look but it feels harder to find things.

i think they started with europe first because the ps3 is strong there from what i understand. that way when these problems happened it would act as a buffer for the US. they could fix the problems before it happens here and be like a test case. since press is bad in the US when sony has problems start with europe where it might not be as bad.

This really baffle me, why didnt they release a beta version so that way all the bugs can be discovered and be fixed before the launch? I know this is just the start but a launch should never be this bad. Honestly i had no problem with the original PSN store. Just like with everything that is new, you just need time to get use to it and adjust to it.

Well Sony isn't exactly helping themselves with stuff like this happening... sigh, how about a little bit of qc testing before putting it live?

I'm really starting to wonder what's going on with Sony nowadays, glad I don't own any Sony stock that's for sure..

Testing can only find so much. It's just not avoidable since there's no way of predicting how the masses will navigate through a system, shutdown while using a system, etc. Testers use it the way it's meant to, and try to do things people might do, then they fix those bugs.

But inevitably, you always miss the things that a few of the masses do that no normal person would do that end up bogging things down. Unfortunately, with more complex software, patches are necessary after the fact.

We're talking about a fairly simple HTML based webstore, not a complicated openended RPG game, so yes stuff like this should very much be avoidable, that's what testing is for. Testing doesn't mean 3 people testing the store functionality either, they could/should have had internal or external beta testing done by many people to test the store properly before launching a new version live like this.

Besides, we're not talking about weird 'couldn't-have-been-anticipated-errors' either, but a lot of people having problems even logging in to the store, navigating or trying to make purchases already on launch day, that's just lazy / unprofessional by the team responsible.
