Assassin's Creed III PS3 To Receive Four Benedict Arnold Missions

There have been multiple reasons to get past Assassin's Creed installments on the PlayStation 3. Want another reason why you should get the PS3 version of ACIII?

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog, PS3 owners will receive four exclusive missions to add to their quest in Assassin's Creed III; the bonus objectives will involve infamous Revolutionary War American general and traitor Benedict Arnold.

You will explore Arnold's secret plan to betray West Point and his country in a four-mission story arc that has General George Washington enlist Connor's help to prove Arnold's backstabbing. This will require going behind enemy lines and the climax will occur when you finally make the historic raid on West Point. Clearly, this is a little more accurate (historically speaking) than the previously announced downloadable content entitled "Tyranny of King George." It's what might happen if Washington had become a dictator here in the new country.

I was torn between the two ACIII games trying to decide which one to get first, until money made the decision for me. Money can be a helpful tool in times of indecisiveness. This will be the first game I play right behind Liberation.

my gf said to me today "only 1 more week left." ugh. amazon stopped doing the release day delivery and now it takes like a week. i want the steel case so i am sticking with it. im super excited for this game.

I had to select two day shipping to get Liberation on release day. I'm not sure how that works unless they ship a day early to guarantee release day delivery. I had credit with them and that's the only reason I chose to go that route. It will definitely hurt future purchases from me.

I had to do the same thing once, it says "If you want this game the day it comes out select 2 day shipping" But the option for 1 day shipping at the cost of a million dollars was still there.

Technically, all of the revolutionaries were traitors - by revolting, they all betrayed their country at the time ;). Of course, that country was treating them like rubbish, so you can see where they were coming from. Which makes it all the more ironic that Arnold is pitched as a traitor, as he fought hard for the revolution, put his own money into it, and got treated like rubbish. Clearly, you should only revolt against oppression when it's not US folk doing the oppressing ;). Benedict then worked hard for the British, who treated him well and continued to after the war. Can't really blame the man for doing what he did, no more a traitor than the revolutionaries themselves. Of course, I'm sure history teaching in the US is completely unbiased and covers all of this ;).

On the gaming front, great to see some more AC3 missions, don't think there's a need for exclusivity though - have all of a game exclusive or none at all, I reckon, and keep it to games published by the platform holders.

Inaccurate. Arnold worked hard for the British after defecting but was never trusted by his men and eventually pushed out of the military and in his next career was then plagued with complaints of deceptive merchant practices. He received no military honors at his funeral.

That's still a damn sight better than how the revolutionaries treated him - my main point was that his motivation for switching sides wasn't so different than the reason the Independence movement rose up, yet he's vilified, and the revolutionaries made out to have done no wrong. Seems a bit of a case of the potcalling the kettle black. Not saying all societies don't do this, but it should be called out in all cases.

It is funny how Arnold has been treated by history. He is a man who technically by tenure and experience should have been number two to Washington in rank. Yet Washington kept passing him over for promotion and leadership roles. (In a day when honor sometimes ment more than money this was the ultimate slap in the face)

His greed for honor and glory finally got the better of him and when he was place in charge of West Point he finally contacted the British about surrendering the fort. Shame how he went from one of the most fervent revolutionaries to "traitor".

He was treated poorly to be sure, but it's another case in history of the idea that nobody ever trusts a traitor ever again no matter what his reasoning.

Does anybody else see the irony of the commercials ? A american indian talking about give us liberty or death ? Kinda strange when you think about how we Americans treated our indian natives. I am interested to see how else Ubisoft writes this history of the American Revolution.

I'm no history buff, but Indians fought on both sides of the war from what I understand. Some sided with America, and some with the British. They were promised land, etc. Didn't work too well for them.

Free black people fought on the side of the revolutionists. Didnt work out to well for them either.

Just saying now... in the 21st century after we know of this countries history (the worlds history for that matter) the give me liberty or death commercials are a bit ironic.... and not in a hipster way.



As for the werewolves.... if Abe Lincoln fought vampires it only makes sense for ole GW to tackle a few werewovles himself.

All I want to know is....will this one be in 3D! Didn't get a chance to play Revelations in 3D, but with upgraded graphics and physics, this should be a treat to watch in all it's glory. (that's if the game supports 3D) *crosses fingers*
