Hey, So...My Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Game Feels Broken

Two things you should know about me before reading this:

1. I am not a complainer. I don't take any pleasure in bashing games or developers, nor am I a nitpicker. When it comes to most games, I'm a die-hard optimist because I happen to love this hobby.

2. There is every chance in the world that what I describe is only happening to me, and that others will not experience the issues I'm having. I accept that, as should you, so be objective.

Also, for the record, Medal of Honor: Warfighter is probably one of my most anticipated games of the year. Our readers may remember when I staunchly defended the first Medal of Honor and dubbed it one heck of a great game. I was also fairly convinced that developer Danger Close would deliver a kick-ass, even memorable campaign for the new effort.

All this being said, something appears to be dreadfully wrong. There's a big ol' 200MB patch to download and such large day-one updates always seem ominous to me. The story starts off promising enough, with some really top-notch visuals (thanks, Frostbite 2!) and solid voice acting. I notice some lackluster AI but it isn't too terrible, and it's hardly a game-breaker. But speaking of game-breakers...

To be frank, I managed to break this game four times in my first hour of play. Three of those four times were similar: I'd move forward, the music would stop, and my comrades would stop moving. I could run around but nothing would happen. The fourth time, the game simply crashed. Then, there's an early sniper section that just appears to be completely broken. I shoot the first guy and my spotter says, "Great, he's down." ...but he isn't down. He's still standing there shooting. I try a few more times. Sometimes my spotter says I miss, other times he says "he's down." No matter what, the enemy remains. Furthermore, if I try to take down any enemy that isn't a primary target, I can't. They're invincible.

I also wanted to just explore the environment a bit and when I did, the game broke again. Two of my allies tried to follow and apparently got stuck somewhere, the music stopped again, and then the whole thing just froze. Breaching doors has also generated a series of brief hitches and glitches, although they weren't critical enough to stop the game. My full review will be coming later tomorrow but I'm really hoping this doesn't continue. Like I said, I don't like saying these things. I'd much rather go, "Hey, Warfighter freakin' rocks!" And I had fully expected to say that, too...

Nothing like that yet. Will keep my status updated.

That is unfortunate for you though, Ben. Maybe it's just the review copy? Eh, who knows. Again if I experience anything goofy I'll say it. I just don't see them releasing a game had they experienced anything like that.

After awhile longer of playing the game is still running fine. The complaints I ha with the first - which were minimal - have been fixed and everything seems to be smooth sailing.

The game is actually pretty awesome, as you mentioned Ben the voice acting is good, and the visuals appear to be more than stellar.

Wish you wernt having bad luck, I hope it doesn't affect your review. Unless of course their is a complete consensus of people having issues tomorrow morning. Kind of like Skyrim.

I am with you Bigrailer, I absolutely love the campaign. There have been no glitches like what Ben described. I hate that he is having these issues.

Ben,
I havent' experienced any glitches or freezing and in my playthrough of the sniper level, I took down whoever I wanted in what order I wanted. I love the campaign. I don't play MP so can't comment on that part. Story so far is remarkable and the graphics are some of the best I have seen in a FPS.

Daus26-

It's hard to say Skyrim got lucky and MoH didn't when there was a much larger consensus having issues with Skyrim. There seems to be a very, very low amount of people experiencing these issues that Ben is, with MoH.

Sorry I was referring to this site only. If MoH does get a poor rating from this site, it would be because of this. Skyrim got lucky and got a really good rating because bugs and crashes wasn't found till much later in the game.

Ben make sure you download the launch day patch. Apparently it is critical to the game playing properly and the game basically doesn't work without it.

It is why they didn't send out copies early.

If you have patched it then man EA dropped the ball, they shouldnt have rushed this game out before it was ready.

Maybe for whatever reason, it didn't get installed. Just kidding, you probably did. I'm just messing, because of the PS3;s pet peeve of having to download and install separately. I'm not a fan of it.

My mistake ben, I wont lie I read the first bit and remembered hearing about the patch so I just comment without reading the full article.

Its a shame its giving you these issues. I lucked out with Darksiders 2, I had NONE of the glitches or bugs some of the reviewers pointed out, except for one freeze after a long play time, which very well could have been my dying *tear* ps3.

I hope things have smoother out for you.

See it's the opposite for me. My buddies and I havnt had any issues and I'm 5 missions in to the game. By the way the car chase scene is ridiculously fun!

Anyways the online part is pretty much running perfect as well, as far as I can tell.

I hate to say it but it's obvious this game was built around the mp. I honestly didn't think it would be. I just have a feelingthe campaign will be really short. Super fun though.

The Patch list....

Upon first starting the game, you should be prompted to download the Medal of Honor Warfighter’s Day 1 Patch.

This patch is for consoles as well as PC and includes a multitude of fixes for both the Single-Player and Multiplayer experience, and our team heartily encourages all Medal of Honor Warfighter players to download and install the patch as soon as they are able.

New Features:
•Now able to add friends and join parties while in-game.
•Can invite others to your platoon or apply to join a platoon while in-game.

General Tweaks and Fixes

Multiplayer Gameplay
•Removed initial delay to Spec Ops Signal Scan charging.
•Snipers in Recon stance will no longer be visible to enemy RQ7/RQ11 UAVs.
•Increased the accuracy of server-side aiming prediction.
•Fixed an issue with “Fall Back” spawning to improve its behavior.
•Fixed spawn type changing to Buddy Spawn automatically when it is not supposed to.
•Call in a Blackhawk for the losing team if they are getting dominated in Sector Control.

•Fixed another issue where the platoon patch would no longer show up under certain circumstances.

•Sped up the bolt action on the CS5, since it was longer than the TAC300.
•Fixed issue with gap between where the LTLM can’t fire and where it indicates the target is too close.
•Reduced the damage/range of the Demolition’s SMGs (Scar PDW, HK 416c, Suchka), as they were overpowered.
•Made switching between primary and secondary weapons much more responsive.
•Fixed an issue where a grenade would not be thrown the next time if the user switches to their weapon while cooking a grenade.
•Player will now switch back to their secondary weapon if that is the weapon in use when throwing their last grenade.

EA seriously need to rethink their strategy.

A dodgy game not ready for release should not be release, no matter what the competition is doing or time of year. If the game is not ready, it is not ready.

Some of the best games ever released were also the most polished and perfected games. Look at Gears of War 3. That was delayed about 6 months cos Epic wanted it to be perfectly polished and stable online from day 1 of release, no patching required. And look at all the high review scores it got!!

I wouldn't worry about a rush job. I've been playing for a while, so have a few buddies of mine and we are not experiencing any issues as of *yet*.

I don't see EA letting this game go out the door unfinished, just before CoD comes out. That's no way to compete.

The MoH reboot had some minor hiccups but nothing major. As far as I can tell, so far, all thos issues were resolved in this game.

Ben,

Have you tried deleting your game data and patch data, reinstalling the game and re-downloading the patch?

I often find that deleting and reinstalling fixes any problems with any software, be it console or PC. Not 100% of the time, but about 90% of the time that action fixes problems.

I don't feel like the game was rushed at all. As I said I've been playing and not only does it run fine, but it truly has the polish the previous did not.

Not only that, the mp and servers are running great. Usually there are day one issues with servers and what not and I've experienced none of that. I had no problems getting into games, there was no lag at all, no disconnect issues; it just seems to be running like it should. It's had it's release date for a while and I feel they met that goal with a good product. Again I'm speaking on my own behalf.

It may have been rushed, but from my perspective it's hard to say. But I feel like I have a solid product.

My only complaint is looking at the missions, there's not too many of em' and that worries me. I thought for sure this would have a large(r) campaign!

its refreshing when some do think outside the box, but when it comes to BF and COD.. I like what they have always done.

seems that this MoH is the whipping boy of the genre. im not saying it doesn't deserve it, because I haven't played it, but hearing all the complaints about the glitches, this isnt really why its being marked down, so i do wonder..

I think very highly of the reboot as well, I don't know what that means for you really, but they are legit.

I played some mp last night, and it's really good. Not sure why it's scoring so low.

Playing the trial and its crashed twice on me so far. Not feeling too confident about a purchase at this point.

Its pretty good - once i figured out how to find deathmatch - but its certainly not polished yet.

Really EA should wake up to the fact that if they release a COD clone 4-5 months after COD (and give the developer time to finish/polish the game) it will sell. Releasing a rushed clone a few weeks before is pretty stupid.

I still bought it for both PS3 and PC so I guess I'm stoopeedd too

Nothing wrong with my copy of MoH, I think it's a great game.

I call user error, lol.

On a more serious note, has anyone bothered uninstalling/reinstalling the patch?

Fantastic! Can't wait to get it!
Good, not sure if I'll buy immediately.
Eh, not bad, but I don't care.
It's just a stupid money grab.
