GameStop To Open Stores Specifically Geared To Youngsters
As we all know, video games aren't just for kids anymore. Okay, we know that but some older mainstreamers living in 1987 may not.
And that's why they may be confused when they start seeing new GameStop Kids stores sprouting up around the country this holiday season. I can just see it now: "Gee Martha, I thought video games were for kids anyway...why make the distinction?" Yeah, why indeed?
The company has announced that the new line of stores is coming; the first location will be in Grapevine Texas, which is also where GameStop's worldwide headquarters is located. GameStop Kids obviously looks to cater to the younger demographic and eventually, the company intends to have around 80 of these stores. As you might expect, you'll see a bigger emphasis on stuff like Skylanders, Lego, and Angry Birds.
I think I remember Electronics Boutique opening up an EB Kids in the mall at which I used to work. It was the same idea...but if I remember correctly, it flopped fast. Not sure why, though.

So I expect to see a lot of adult 'kids' shopping there for their own 'kids. Geeks will be geeks.

But then as a childrens store... I have to be honest, I don't think most developers consider children anymore. I bet 95% of AAA titles are rated 15+ or over. It's because shooters have stepped into the mainframe this gen, which obviously don't appeal to children... well that's how it should be anyway...
