Join The Rebellion: Play A Classic Instead Of Black Ops II

Important Disclaimer: Nobody is bashing Call of Duty: Black Ops II in this article. We at PSXE have every confidence that it will be a fine game, and millions will love it.

All right now, come together, gamer brothers.

We are in the process of creating a mild rebellion in response to the upcoming blockbuster that will be Black Ops II. We say "mild" because we bear the CoD franchise and the makers of its game no ill will, nor do we have a problem with those who enjoy its games. We do, however, believe firmly that various old-school styles of interactive entertainment that deserve to survive have all but died. We also believe that once upon a time, before this industry went full-on mainstream, there were memorable experiences that would seem alien and even comical in the eyes of today's youth.

So on November 13, a gigantic number of gamers will be lining up to purchase the biggest video game of 2012. One could be all bitter and cynical and say that such lines will consist of ADD-riddled teens who can't play any game that doesn't involve constant shooting. But we won't say that. We're just going to create this nice little club, see, and this club will not buy BOII on launch day. Instead, each member will sit down and play a classic of their choice. It can be anything (although it may not be in the spirit of the club to pick a shooter). It can be any game that brings a tear to your eye, either because you don't see that type of gameplay anymore or because the memories are thick...or both.

You don't have to finish it. You don't even have to play it beyond that day. Just sit there, playing your favorite classic, knowing that you're having just as much fun (if not more fun) than anyone playing Black Ops II. Plus, it's a nice homage to the past. If you'd like be a member of the club, simply state your commitment to the idea and the title of the classic you plan to play on November 13. Thank you for your support. If you're wondering, my choice is in the upper right of this article.

You know can resist the urge... if you want to satiate it, play MW3! :p

I wanna play the PS1 version of Grandia! That game is awesome and at that time, not many games had voiceovers...

I hope my disc still plays 'cause if it doesn't, I may have to buy it digital...

I played a classic the other day. A game that I've dumped many a quarter into when I was a kid. After all these years, I finally made it past wave 5 in Joust. But I died quickly afterwards.

I'll play that one again on November 13, but I may need a reminder though. World caught me excercising my massive short term memory capabilities the other day. It's like having stuper powers or something. Yes, I did mean stuper.

Beauty & The Beast
Demon Attack
Dragonfire
Frogger
Ice Trek
Lock N Chase
Night Stalker
Pitfall
Sea Battle
Snafu
Stampede
Triple Action
Tron Deadly Discs
and Utopia.

But later that night I'll probably go back to Mafia 2's DLC if I haven't finished it, or another one of my PS3's backlogged games if I have.

SirLoin,

Thank goodness, I kept my Genesis & have been slowly building up my games library for it, which now stands at 147 games.

You should go check eBay, amazon & 1/2 price(Dot)com for some great used deals or box lot deals on the Genesis, or other retro systems & hand-helds(I picked up a Sega Gamegear with 1 game included for only $7) & get yourself back into some great retro gaming, on the super-cheap.

After re-buying my Intellivision I & II consoles once again, I was able to find a box-lot deal on 13 of their best-selling games for less than $24.

FYI, I sometimes wind up with a few doubles in those box lots for all my game collections, but I'm always willing to trade those for ones I don't have if anyone lets me know.

Heck, when I've got the time, I'm planning to set up a new thread in the forum of all the doubles of games I'm willing to swap with anyone, for any I still don't have yet.

Too busy making video games to play video games right now! But if I could, (and I dig this idea), I'd play TM2 and MGS1. TM2 was the game that made me buy a PS1 and subsequently, I've gotten a Playstation console each time for David Jaffe's next entry in the series.

And MGS1 is the game that made me want to become a game designer.

I came to the conclusion the other day that COD is like a drug. That first hit you take (COD4 for me) was the best. It was so good and so much fun. Then you keep going back to the next entry in the franchise and it's just never as good, but you keep chasing it hoping it will be.

I gave up after BO (though I borrowed MW3 from a friend just to see how it would end), and now I'm done. Not borrowing BO II, no more COD for me. No more drug chasing.

I have to be honest, I thought the game was already out, proving how much attention I have given to the series. I'm not against the series, I'm simply just not interested in CoD. Though I am not going to rise against it and make a point of playing a classic game. It's this sort of attitude which is the problem with the 'Gaming community'. I never really follow popularity crazes, if I take an interest in something I will peruse it and I will not judge a product by it's fan base - I think the only fan base I have ever gotten irritated with was the Mass Effect fanbase and even so that is not the developers fault, if anything I have sympathy for them.

But there has been nothing this fall that has really caught my eye, I know some of the games are good, but just not my cup of tea cannot wait for Ni No Kuni next year though day 1 purchase for sure!

I wanna join in on this. Only problem is I have to bring out my old Amiga from the basement to play something *really* classic. Not sure if the machine still works, even.

But yeah, nov 13th? Count me in.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. I'll pop in my copy of "Threads of Fate" and play until I pass out!

Nice article, if you ask me a better rebellion would be play a classic Final Fantasy when FFXIII-III comes out! Thats one I could really get behind on because that would mean more to me. Will be picking up Black Ops 2 on midnight here, wonder if there will be another Dead Ops Arcade mode, might do some of that retro flavored goodness on the 13th.

Its been too long fellow psxextremers.

And I know I'm a little late to this party, but in the spirits of the festivities, I still thought id share.

I am going to be one of the millions playing black ops 2 on the 13th, after I get off work. I used pto to take the 14th off so I can play for a larger amount of the night as well.

BUT, I feel that I've been doing classic gaming enough lately to play codblops2 that night.
Now, while the classic game I'm currently playing is only 10 years old, and the rest of the series is as new as last year, I think it will still work out.
I've been playing the kingdom hearts series for probably the last 2 months now.

I'm going from kh:bbs up to kh:3ds.
So lots of little side games in there just to get the whole story.

Well, just wanted to share.
Take care all

I'll probably still be playing AC 3, AC 3: Liberation and Halo 4 while waiting patiently for Hitman: Absolution to release. I'm actually not a Call of Duty hater, I just don't care much for the franchise and don't think any of its entries were that great except for the first MW.

Going through Suikoden II and Tales of Eternia. Might throw in a Final Fantasy too... oh, classics are my only option considering I sold my PS3. That and I'm a CoD hater.

EDIT:

I also work that day anyway. XD
