Black Ops II Multiplayer Rules: "Offensive" Peeps Can Be Banned

Treyarch is merely asking that everyone play nice together. ...but when it comes to Call of Duty, that certainly seems like a tall order, doesn't it?

Well known for generating all sorts of caustic and even downright insulting and disgusting behavior when playing online, the world's biggest video game franchise isn't really about "playing nice together." Hell, the entire premise involves running around shooting each other.

But if you're one of those nasty players and you think you can get away with being a total a-hole, you might be in for a surprise. The developer has detailed the myriad of ways you could get booted from the Black Ops II multiplayer. This involves the obvious (hacking, boosting, etc.) along with a few more ambitious rules, such as- "Any user who is found to use aggressive, offensive, derogatory or racially charged language is subject to penalty."

Temporary bans range from two days to two weeks depending on the severity of the infraction, while permanent bans are possible if you just can't stop yourself from being a colossal prick. You might even get in trouble for creating what is deemed an "offensive, racist or sexually explicit Emblem." I get the feeling some of the casuals who live and breathe CoD and scream at people in forums with bad grammar, a lot of capital letters, and a ton of exclamation points could be in trouble...

The verbal stuff would be awfully hard to prove, though, wouldn't it? Suppose my party of 6 just got mad because a guy on the other team was incredible. What's to stop us from plotting to all report him for language even if the guy was a really nice guy!

The emblem thing shouldn't be difficult to catch, though. I remember Black Ops had a reporting system for inappropriate emblems. I wonder if they ever really did anything...

I wonder about that as well. I know when you do good in a game people will report you and do what ever they can to make it seem like you did something wrong. Especially on xbox.

Wouldn't they be shooting themselves in the foot? Those are the ones who swore eternal loyalty to them... if you take from th equation those little (and big) pricks, you could be slashing off more than half the players...

Could they be makinng, dare I say it, the first step to COD oblivion??? Meh, don't think so... :p

I'm not sure about that, even If some did leave I am sure more casuals will take the place of the ones who left.

But who knows really, It could have the reverse effect.

waddaminute - you can't swear anymore????

well thats my entire work crew out. I guess it means playing without headsets.

Really - if this is a 'rated mature' game - you can't stop swearing - just ban children from playing. I hate having to try and temper my foul mouth when you hear a kids voice

There is nothing mature about abusing others with offensive language while hiding behind the anonymity of a mic. It's the exact opposite of mature. I for one welcome this. Part of the reason I quit play shooters online is because of the access of moronic, racist, bigoted, immature pieces of crap who curse constantly and blare their crap rap music through their headset.

Nothing wrong with swearing when you get stabbed in the back - not abusing anyone - its frustration and a natural reaction - Im certainly not advocating racist abuse etc which is something completely different.

I just don't want COD to join the nanny state.

Maybe have different lobbies for those easily offended and for the rest of us.

Lol, it's not a nanny state when it's run by a private company. Being Canadian you should understand that better than most. As humans we should strive to be our best and letting a bunch of curse words fly out of your mouth because of a video game is far from being our best.
